You excited they might sign Ben Simmons? He’s got no balls so he’ll fit in panties you can start their ad bushwick ! @J.R.
Anyone born before 2000 is pretty much millennials. Gen Z crowd is just entering the work force. No matter how you splice it, it's marketing 101 as @tinman says - the question isn't why VS is doing this, the real question is why did it take them so long?
Most of VS base is 16-24, which places it squarely in Gen Z, ranging into the tween of Millennials/Gen Z. This matters because it seems Gen Z is the anti-thesis of what Millennials represent. To answer your question on timing, the reality is the range of basic to fat/ugly women tend not to spend a lot of money on lingerie. And certainly not on an imagine that portrays an unhealthy and unrealistic view of women. Gen Z isn't buying into this nonsense. Displaying unattractive women in lingerie is certainly not going to help their cause. IMO, they should pivot into casual wear and health and fitness. Millennials would eat that **** up. What they are doing now is a disaster.
Chubby used to be pretty. Pale white skin too (probably is still today in some regions of the world). Pink used to be a "man" color.
And having a professional athlete's body will change that? I imagine those that are happiest about it are going to be the women who don't appreciate their husbands and sons looking at the mostly naked posters in the windows.
I don't know. Part of the 70s-era arguments against p*rnography was that p*rn was harmful to women. Now there are equally sincerely-held arguments made in defense of p*rnography (and sex work more generally) as female-empowering. I should think that the body image topic resembles the "systemic racism" topic in the sense that sexualized images of women's bodies are a manifestation of a broader type of "systemic sexism." At any rate I don't see anything that warrants dismissing the subject out of hand. Unless folks are just uncomfortable with female issues.
Sexy lingerie doesn't pay the bills (ask VS). Sexy lingerie is for MEN, not women. As they grow up, women love the comfort of granny panties, boyshorts, and Cheeky panties over Thongs, G-strings, and Tanga Briefs.
Victoria Secret is Ben Simmons: Measurables are SEXY and Ideal, but not practical in today's NBA. The problem is the Sixers needed a Chris Paul: Traditional and Reliable PG...comfortable as an old pair of Granny Panties...and performs as needed.
