Liberals and conservatives do tend to have wildly different understandings of what CRT is and each seems to like to strawman the other to exaggerate their points. Teaching the facts about racism and its role in history and how it manifests itself today is not CRT. On the same note, teaching kids that racism is everywhere and that we need to tear down society to the studs by focusing on race (or other immutable characteristics) as part of some grand social constructionist project isn't OK either.
that's a pretty standard assumption https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/22464746/critical-race-theory-anti-racism-jarvis-givens
"Pro Life" sounds good at first blush too but similarly the devil is in the details and the downstream results are pretty bad.
Why is it not okay? Racism is everywhere. Tribalism is an inherent part of the human condition and in fact it paints white people as just human.if you approach racism from a standpoint that it's a part of the human condition. When we make society try to hide it with claims like "I don't see color", we allow our subconscious biases to take over rather than try to acknowledge them and try to overcome those biases. Japanese society can be very racist. Rural areas in South Asia can be very tribal and fear people who aren't like them. Europe has a large anti-immigration streak especially towards Arab and South Asian Muslims. South Asian and Asian immigrants to the US also can be very racist towards Black people in the US. I can attest with my extended family members who migrated from Bangladesh and some of the comments they have made of Black people. Acknowledging that and understanding that. I just don't know why some people are so offended by this? I can accept that my own extended family can have racist sentiments and those sub concious biases effect how they interact with other people.
I really haven't heard the details. Just platitudes. And that's why there is so much confusion and hatred of these matters because it is so simple to strawman these positions when all the claims are vague and platitudic.
I think the real dividing line is when you go from describing or cataloging racism to prescribing solutions. I've not seen many CRT purveyors in popular culture that don't really make a huge ****ing mess of it. Ibram X Kendi, Robin Deangelo, etc.
That is in fact exactly what CRT is. I have yet to see any evidence of where this idea is being taught.
The problem with these organizations that are pushing to remove things like the 1619 project from education - is why? Why is it bad to learn about American history from the perspective of slavery and contributions of black Americans? Why are so many people threatened by that?
No idea what critical race theory is, but did you guys see there is a domestic terrorism sect forming in these United States, coupled with a slow moving coup by far right wing extremists which have infiltrated state and local governments?
That's not what CRT is either. It seems a lot of people don't know what it actually is. I was guilty of this as well.
That's not the only thing the 1619 project is. It's actively pushing the theory that most white agree with systematic racism and don't want things to change. It's also historically inaccurate citing a major cause of the Revolutionary War was to keep slavery. It's interpreting history with a slant or bias to a specific idea the author has. It's not a benign historical document.
LOL, I recall the 1619 project as a section that ran in the New York TImes a few years ago with some good articles on historical stuff but that I would otherwise may not have remembered until the grievance merchants made it a prime rally point for UNENDING CULTURE WAR to distract that they don't have anything otherwise productive to say about ****ing anything. Your periodic reminder, the only reason why anybody even talks about it is because the Republican/Authoritarian party has to talk about something other than its plans to continue grinding 90% of America into the utter dirt, this time without an elected majority. Note, this is why you can't run your Air conditioning now, Texans.
Critical race theory is the 2017 Antifa of 2021. It's a phrase that FoxNews uses to describe whatever they want the opposition to be portrayed as and the Right is dumb enough to get pissed at whatever FoxNews is telling them to get pissed about because they are ignorant fools. I'm a liberal and I've never been recruited by, or known anyone who is part of "Antifa". I'm a liberal who is MARRIED to a teacher who has never heard of "Critical Race Theory." WHAT I AM AWARE OF IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT IS 5 GOP SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS FUNDING CHIP GAINE'S SISTER AS A PROP "LEADER" OF THE SCHOOL BOARD WHERE HER LEADING CAUSE IS TO FIRE TEACHERS WHO AREN'T CONSERVATIVE ENOUGH. But back onto CRT....If you are dumb enough to get snuckered by FoxNews on this crap where they make you sound like David Duke when you recite Tucker Carlson's monologue then there truly is no hope for you in life. People are morons, but unfortunately we live under the thumb of morons on a daily basis here in the US.
