If I owned an NBA team, I would have a team of people searching all the sports forums of all teams. Along with some really bad ideas there also comes some really good ideas or beliefs. I don't want to prop up Jalen Green more and possibly influence a team.....likewise I don't want to bring up all the flaws I believe Mobley has currently. I will end this with, I think Mobley has been packaged and tailormade for the draft by using well designed PR and West coast bias. Mobley will probably go #2 because of the WC bias.....but #9 if he had played at the University of Houston or Texas A&M.
I hate to be that guy but I saw somewhere that Mobley has issues with his desire to play basketball. Not sure how true it is. If its true, how would he act when he starts getting paid? If I find the video I'll post it.
I agree wholeheartedly with what is bolded. As for Green, I just think we see him differently. I see him the same way I saw the guys I've mentioned as prospects. Lavine was a hell of a prospect who was taller, longer, as athletic (if not moreso), and a better shooter. And he fell almost out of the lottery because, as prospects, those guys aren't as highly valued. If the Rockets get a top 4 pick and it ends up being green I will rejoice. But if it were my pick and I had the option I would go Mobley. I'm fine if/that you and others disagree.
God help us if Stone is mulling most of the ideas posted here (mine included). I would be really scared if Stone came in and said, let me tell you guys what sydmill proposed last night in cf. In this day and age of Twitter, fb, and YouTube I don't think the West coast bias thing is what it was before. I mean, the #1 pick went to basketball mecca OSU.
I believe there were players reading in here once. Was never sure. They're probably saying the same or worse.
Well when you are that dominate it's hard to deny. Cade has the BBIQ, shooting, size.....everything but the teammates to advance. I was telling people of Kispert for mid first pick and someone mentioned that Kispert is not even the best player on his team. Meaning Suggs is better. Then Kispert won player of year in his conference....meaning better than Suggs. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Steph is a pretty boy, wholesome look, media go gaga like that's their first born and only one. Mobley is a pretty boy, looks wholesome, California player. Oh yeah, they have been over hyping him for months. Telling me he can guard 1-5. Maybe if the guard is Rondo or Ish Smith (no jump shot). But I want to see him guard Ja Morant, Steph Curry or Trade Young. Maybe guard N Claxton, Nerlens, Plumlee (guys with no offense) But let me see him guard Embiid, KAT or Jokic. Don't show me against Alfonso Plummer and Brandon Carlson. Guys that probably won't even make it into the G-league. Bassey can probably guard Rondo, Ish Smith, Plumlee, Nerlens, Claxton.....can I say Bassey guards 1-5? It's silly West Coast hype. Point guards get by him easy, then he tracks them from behind. Guards in the NBA are going to cut off his path and do hesitation dribbles, pause, jump backwards into his chest. He will get more fouls than blocks n the NBA. Bassey is not pretty so that's why he is going late first to early second. Bassey looks like Middleton, not pretty but will be good enough in the NBA.
Bassey is small school, no doubt, but saying a west coast bias is only reason for Mobley being touted as top 3 pick is extreme. Dream went 1st overall and he played for Houston. Yao came from China. Lebron came from HS in Ohio.
If I'm picking in the top 3-5 I expect more than 11 & 5 and that has top be spoon fed to him .... He's not posting people up , beating people or otherwise getting those points on his own. Bottom line , right now he has no gravity ..... I don't see him as value at the pick right now. And that last bit is where I have the hangup drafting a guy in the top 3 - He's going to need someone to set the table for him. He's not "Impacting the game" he's just getting his in the flow of the game. He's a role player , not a star. We're drafting in the top 4 picks , we're expecting a guy who has an impact , a star - we're expecting a guy who has the gravity to make those around him better on both ends. Shooting 30% from NCAA 3 he's not going to have much gravity .... What do you do , put him as the pick man ? or in the dunkers spot on the baseline ? ... You can find those guys up and down the draft. I like the potential of his defense , I just think there's a huge potential for a bust - at least based upon my expectations for a player taken that early.
I'm curious if you really thought that way when Wiseman came out. Easy to say he was not worth top 2 today after he's had a disappointing season. I for one was not a fan of Wiseman. But I am a fan of Mobley.
Dream was not 218 pounds Same people that are telling me Mobley can put on 20 pounds but Jalen Green can't......are drinking the West Coast bias Kool Aid. Nerlens has gone from 209 pounds (rookie) to 220 now. 11 pounds in in 7 years. Claxton hasn't gain weight in 2 years. But yes, I'm being told Mobley will be at 238 in two years. People are crazy.
You are on the West Coast, correct? I'm saying if Mobley was at Texas A&M, I would be called out for saying Mobley can guard 1 thru 5. ESPN would probably call me out and say, "oh yeah, let's see how well he does against Curry, Ball, Morant, CP3, Trae, Kyrie, Lillard, Jamal Murray." Then I would have to come back with, "I meant he could guard 1-5...........In COLLEGE." "I didn't mean he would definitely guard 1-5 at the pro level and shut them down." Wiseman came out of college at 235 pounds. Because the Rockets had no chance of moving up into the first round last season, I didn't pay any attention to the first round prospects.
honestly i wouldn't mind a frontcourt of mobley and wood because that means we would be front runners to get Banchero
Has someone said that Green can't put on weight? I must've missed that. The combine will tell the tale but I am expecting Mobley to be close to 220 when he weighs in. I dont think it is crazy to think he can put on 10 or 12 pounds with a professional strength and conditioning coach and, if he were in Houston, copious amounts of brisket. Might take a year or two but I could see around there in 2 years.
Missing my point. But Ralph Sampson was 7'4 220 coming out of UVA. And that is after playing 4 years in college, unlike Mobley who is coming out 1 year removed from HS. It is not impossible to gain 10-15 lbs in NBA program. Especially since Mobley is only 19 years old. And Nerlens Noel was 10 lbs lighter when he came out and many on CF still clamor to sign him, me included.
Nerlens was drafted number 1.....only to be back up material now. That's my worry with Mobley. I'm not drafting Mobley #2 to be back up material. Questions about whether he likes the game (not sure that is valid)? Not sure why he only shot 1.2 three point attempts when many say he could have shot more. I question his attempt to pad stats. I prefer Kuminga taking 5 or 6 three's a game. Showing me a willingness to shoot 7 or 8 if need be in a game. Shyness is not to be rewarded.....if he has anxiety like Fultz, I want to recognize it. I'm guessing Mobley if he had attempted 3 or 4 a game would have been at 20% from 3.....forcing his draft stock to plummet. His handlers couldn't have that. I don't want a guy who puts individual stats over team success. Shoot the 3 unless you are as bad as Giannis or Westbrook.
I dont get the logic here. So you wanted him to force shots from 3 to prove to you that he was a good 3 point shooter and his decision not to do that was because he was attempting to pad his stats (or was it putting his stats over team success which sounds like the exact opposite)? Also, why would increasing his volume change his percentage*? Are you endorsing him jacking up bad shots because.... handlers? West coast bias? Why? * if he is a 20% shooter on 3 or 4 wouldn't he likely be a 20% shooter on 1.2 (or is it that he was taking good shots and you want him to take bad ones?)
