This country is headed into a buzz saw. In addition to the anti-democratic structural issues (electoral college, Senate, etc.), and the flood of voting restriction legislation being proposed and passed by Republican state legislators, there is the simple reality that if a Democrat wins the Presidential election in 2024, there will likely be Republican-controlled states that are just going to refuse to certify the results, and if Republicans control the House or the Senate, they are probably going to refuse to certify at the federal level. It seems increasingly unlikely that Democrats are going to be able to pass any legislation that will address any of these issues.

I really hope that I am wrong because this is terrifying ****. And the chaos that will follow isn't going to skip our Republican and "moderate" friends here.

    ...
Contrast their comments with those of Fred Wertheimer, the president of the reform group Democracy 21 and former president of Common Cause, who told me that Republicans’ actions since Biden’s election constitute “the greatest attack on the democratic process in the 50 years I’ve been working on these issues.” Or with those of Ian Bassin, the executive director of Protect Democracy, a nonpartisan group studying threats to the electoral system: “I think we are in a far more precarious place just five months later than we were even from November through January. If that trajectory continues, you can see where it’s headed by November 2022 or November 2024.”

The White House does see a risk in the possibility that Republicans—whether local election officials, GOP-controlled state legislatures, or a potential Republican majority in the U.S. House or Senate—will refuse to certify clear Democratic wins in the 2022 and 2024 elections. The senior Democrat told me, “Given how things have developed since January 6, if the situation is not brought under some control and this isn’t countered effectively, then I think there is a significant risk” that “Republican officials, unlike the ones we saw standing up to pressure in 2020, are going to decline to certify Democratic victories.” If Republicans hold the House, Senate, or both after the 2024 election, that could allow Congress to try to install a GOP president even if clear evidence exists that the Democrat won...

Ya. Being enthusiastic about voting no on increasing the federal min wage makes her seem like one of those evil "everything is zero-sum" Republicans.

I can't even imagine how that made her feel. As if losing her son wasn't bad enough. To not even offer her condolences or listen to what she has to say is shameful beyond words.

I saw an interview with Brian Sicknick's mother and she said that both her and her son had been Trump supporters. He never contacted her to offer condolences and she really feels betrayed by him.

Hopefully it opened her eyes to what a callous human being he really is.

He also said that he's proud of the four years he was VP and what Trump did.

I'm wondering if we need to close Guantanamo after all - maybe a secure location for the 1/6 terrorists to serve out their sentences

This forgiving of his would-be killers will surely pave the way to his 4th place finish in Iowa 2024.

These ****ing dopes don't get it.

Call me an alarmist or whatever but to me there's just an obvious plot going on with Trump and his confidants to stir up a big enough conspiracy that Biden is illegitimate so that one of his nutcase followers assasinates him.

I hate to use the word assasinate, but how else are we to take this obvious plot to get his supporters to do something on his behalf to "reinstate" him. What am I missing here???

Even if this is just a grift to get donations, it's one that is still doing so knowing full well that the grift comes with obvious risks of severe violence. I don't think anyone that thinks it's just a grift should then be able to shrug it off as if it's still not just as dangerous.

    .........

Also kind of surprised that we aren't hearing more about the House voting on Trump to be Speaker of the House if they win in 2022. To the best of my knowledge, it actually is possible to vote him in that role. If there is a coup attempt that could actually be successful under the constitution it would be getting Trump in as Speaker, and then something happening to Biden and Harris. Hitler and Putin didn't even need to use violence in their cases to work their way back into power with the same tactic.

Trump knows damn well he lost. He's just trying to save face, even though anyone with half a brain knows he's full of himself.

As far as how far he and the GOP would go to get power and stay there forever.....well I don't thing anything illegal, immoral, dangerous, or deadly is off the table. They are more extreme now than ever, especially since they have gotten away with their coup. (So far anyway). It's scary actually.

    Yes he really lost.

But he's too ignorant and egotistical to believe it.

I'm pretty sure he exactly knows what he's doing. He lost and he knows it. He just want to take the whole country with him.
