I would love to see them find a way to keep Garcia in the rotation. Javier seems like he can make a natural transition to the pen. Don't think Lance would want to try, esp. since he's being paid starter's money. Does he have some John Smotlz in him?

Garcia has an innings limit thats gonna dictate he spend some time out of the rotation one way or the other. The rotation is likely gonna be musical chairs from here on out, even into a potential postseason.

I don't see anybody moving into a traditional relief role this season.

With half your lineup out in most of those games.

@J.R. , time to start printing those WS tickets baby. Strange they aren't on sale according to ticket sites?

Another solid win against the Red Sox. 3 games in a row feels nice after basically having that SD series won and/or swept and coming away with only 1. Good news is the As aren't that great either. Hopefully we get everyone back and healthy which will go a long way. I think we are better than the A's. Not leaps and bounds better, but better when healthy. Garcia dealing is really nice to see too.

Nice recap by Tags on Garcia yesterday with excerpts below: https://www.mlb.com/astros/news/luis-garcia-goes-7-strong-innings-in-win-over-red-sox

“He’s proven he belongs in the big leagues. That’s No. 1,” Astros manager Dusty Baker said. “Guys have faith in him. I know the infielders told me a month ago he had outstanding stuff...."

“We’re going to need everybody here in the rotation,” Baker said.

“It’s very good,” Baker said of the slider. “And then it makes his fastball look faster. His command of his secondary pitches was very important, because they’re a good-hitting club over there. He was kind of in control and in command.”

His 2.60 ERA through his first 10 career starts is the seventh-lowest in Astros history.

That's going to be a real tough sell moving him from the rotation for anything but rest when Lance comes back. Pretty amazing for a kid who never pitched in AA or AAA.

Oh really? He was in A ball last year? That is pretty damn impressive.

Almost entirely (so far) sans Brantley and Yordan, Yulli missing time, and us literally choking away two games late to SD. We could very easily be looking at a 6-1 record going into tonight's game. This immediately after getting SWEPT by the sh!ta$$ rangers of all teams.

    2017 Rk ball 6 appearances - 1 Start
    2018 A-/A ball 24 appearances - 13 Starts
    2019 A/A+ ball 24 appearances - 18 Starts
    2020 MLB 5 appearances - 1 Start
    2021 MLB 11 appearances - 9 Starts

His progress has to be the biggest unexpected pleasant surprise of the year so far.
    Framber's return is second.

He was signed out of Venezuela by the Astros on July 2, 2017. I guess the old pipeline that first produced Ceasar Cedeno may have gone underground.

The Astros international scouts, along with Brent Strom, may be the organizational MVPs. Urquidy, Garcia, Framber, Javier, Paredes, and Abreu are all international players signed as free agents between 2013 and 2017. That's a ridiculously impressive collection of talent that make very little money and cost zero draft picks.

Yep. The old memory is playing tricks on me. They did have an academy in Venezuela and they did sign Cedeno as a 16 year old, but they weren't connected.

I don't follow the last sentence above. Why wouldn't they move Garcia to the pen once McCullers comes back, and have him pitch 2-3 innings a week as opposed to 6? Could probably have him pitch through the playoffs that way.
