We should be all in this year. Our lineup even with Straw and Machete is second to none. Our starting rotation if Valdez comes back we are very playoff deep with Greiner, Valdez, Urquidy, and McCullers. We should trade for a CF and Relief help as soon as it is available. Why wait until the trade deadline when all the contenders will be trying to better themselves. Our minor league pitching should not be off limits. Replace Straw with a legitimate hitter and add a couple of relief arms and we will sail through the American League. I would not be too worried about the minor leagues. Sign a CF and relief arms and we will be legitimate WS contenders thru 2024. Nothing new here just don’t see the point in waiting.
Even the bad teams don't start selling until Mid June. Who are you going to get to replace Straw? Marlins aren't far enough out so they aren't trading Starling Marte yet. If Ketel Marte is available we don't have the prospects to land him. Cubs are winning so forget bringing back Marisnick. Is Michael Taylor enough of an upgrade to bother? Some people here have suggested Adam Frazier.... hasn't played CF since 2018 and only played there in 9 games. Will the Reds trade Tyler Naquin? Not sure, but he is rapidly fading from his hot start. Straw doesn't have his power but in May had a better avg and OBP. i think they will add an arm. Not sure they will replace Straw unless it comes from the minors.
This is true. There was a good 20-30% bonus in prospect value acquired 5+ years ago by trading rental players at the deadline. Considering that this has gone down significantly lately, I'm a little surprised sellers haven't tried to get better prospects by dealing earlier. It seems teams are just going through the motions and doing what they have always done.
Was looking at stats and noticed that ESPN has Brantley as our worst player by DWAR (-0.3)? Bregs -0.1 ? https://www.espn.com/mlb/team/stats/_/type/fielding/name/hou/table/fielding/sort/defWARBR/dir/desc
When Luhnow was here, I'd expect him to find a way to acquire Trout from LAA and have them pay part of the freight, With Click, I have low expectations, whether he deserves it or not.
Fielding Bible is the only defensive metric I totally trust. The Rdrs/yr and Rtot/yr are the main ones I look at that are easily accessible. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2021-fielding.shtml
Wonder if Mariners would move on from Haniger, and what it would take to get him. Would have to move Kyle to center. Haniger could pick up a little of the Correa slack if Astros let him walk.
I can't believe that we go swept by the Rangers, Rockies, and Tigers. We would be leading the AL if it weren't for those series.
