I've been looking at guys in that range for a while now .... One I really like is Trey Murphy iii. If he were a year or two younger he'd be a top 5 pick but he's coming out as a 20 year old junior. He's the only 50/40/90 shooter in this draft at 6'9" with a 7'2" wingspan and really solid handles you could play at the 2-3-4.
Kessler: a bit of a scissor kick release on his 3-pt shot. I prefer 6'7" Johnny Juzang who scouts equate or give an Ariza comparison..... but I think Juzang is going to be a much better Ariza on offense. Covid-19 concerns derailed his season prior with Kentucky or slowed the start of this season with UCLA. Juzang is just tapping into his potential.
I want him with what I’ve seen said about him, but with the other pick I want a high upside pick...like jalen Johnson (is he supposed to go around there? Probably earlier I guess, but a player with high upside is what I want..poku style if possible) that’s the dream with those picks. 1 high floor that’s going to be solid for sure like tm3 one high upside
My feelings exactly .... But I don't think Johnson is around beyond the 10th pick , if he had played a a full season he'd be in the top 4-5. I'm not saying he's gonna be good but that he has physical traits that you just can't teach and the ceiling is very high. Murphy's ceiling might not be super high but he's a rotation piece and guys who can shoot like that - at that size are few and far between. He's got the potential to be a great defender too with the length / wingspan.
What's your opinion regarding Kai Jones? He doesn't look too coordinated while bringing the ball up even in transition and he is skinny. How is he going to get to the basket? I just don't see it.
I don't see him playing with the ball in his hands in the NBA , pick and roll or play him on the baseline .... he'll need someone to set the table.
You guys doing a great job scouting these players. Unfortunately I think Stone and Tilman will f*** things up.
Agree! I've checked him out as well. Love the arc on his shots--a thing of beauty. He's also a decent defender and has the length we need on this team. I mean he's only 20, I think a lot of really good players don't come into their own for several more years (Harden broke out with us at 23). As I said in another post, I hope we can add length, defense and shooting in this draft and it would also be great to have another Murphy in a Rockets uni.
The workouts will be critical for many of them. I hope Stone will make the right picks with Eli's help. TF needs to get out the way.
Do you think he is worthy of being selected with the 18th pick? Is there another player that you really like at the 18th spot? I'm assuming that we will drop out of the top 4.
I would love to have Franz Wagner, if he somehow dropped to #18. But most likely he will be snagged earlier. He seems to be a complete player, offense /defense. Good handle and body control. Efficient shooting and overall great stats.
Most important point is that Rockets do not need to burn a FRP for Onu. Could steal him in 2nd round or even sign him as a UDFA.
