I absolutely hate the Jazz organization, its fans and most of the players...but do have fond memories of Eaton v. Olajuwon. Absolutely great big man who was an outstanding low post force that every team had difficulty dealing with. Terrible way to go. Thoughts to his family and friends. Rest well big man. Former Utah Jazz center Mark Eaton dies after bicycle crash at age 64 https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...z-center-mark-eaton-dies-bicycle-crash-age-64
Sad. Apparently just a regular bike wreck, no cars involved. I'm not sure it's a bad way to go compared to so many other ways, if he wiped out and lost consciousness soon thereafter. Always seemed like a decent enough guy. Not necessarily someone who seemed to love the game but more just accepted that he was huge when that meant a lot in the NBA. Did some motivational speaking after retirement.
I was surprised when I looked at some old pics of him in his playing days that he wasn't bigger and more muscled. In my mind he played like he was.
This guy could actually block Hakeem's shot. He was so tall and heavy he would just hold his hands up. He wouldn't try to keep up with Hakeem's quickness.
The TNT crew called him a true Gentle Giant. And yeah he was a rare player who Hakeem struggled against. He was so tall, big, and strong he didn't have to attempt matching Dream's quickness.
Jesus. RIP. No vehicle involved, wtf? With what happened to Sean Bradley, these big guys need to stay away from bicycles. How bizarre.
Yeah, now that you mention it -- a tall person probably has their center of gravity even higher off the ground than a normal biker, and speeding along at 30 mph on a little metal thing is already dangerous enough. Friend got thrown off hers last week; concussion, several cracked bones, and two follow-up surgeries to come. Just from hitting a pothole when she couldn't see it.
no. She’d be dead without her helmet and she was riding like normal. WTF? point is biking is sadly dangerous.
absolutely a great matchup to watch back in the day. From mechanic to the NBA to two time defensive player of the year. We will miss you Mark.
That’s why I have a nice Specialized mountain bike. On the street it’s obviously slower than a street bike. But the fat tires a nice and keep me upright.
I ride a mountain bike too it helps burn calories and i can handle the speed on it especially now that I am getting older. I have been tempted to get a road bike but I may go for gravel tires just for the added control.
I hated and still hate the Jazz but I loved watching those 80's teams go at it. Mountain Man was the only one I ever saw phase the Dream once he had all his moves. RIP
I remember Eaton used to give Hakeem fits because he was just so big and it was hard for dream to get around him.
