In a democracy that's a pretty dumb question.

That is disgusting. I men seriously, that guy ticks almost every single box in the traits of a sociopath/psychopath diagnosis.

To any republicans that follow this thread please explain these stats. How did the fringe take control of your party and what are you doing to sop it or on some level do you continue to believe the big lie? Is your party really this gullible or stupid?

Because we care about the state of our nation and realize having to healthy parties is better for everybody.

    Why don't you care?

The fringe took control because the GOP has no actual platform or ideas. There was a vacuum where the electorate asked what do you stand for and the answer was anti-liberal. When your party is full of sheep and cuckolds you tend to follow whatever charismatic charlatan shows up and says follow me.

Its much easier than thinking for yourself or coming up with new ideas.

Theres a big difference between the populace and govt. There are people that are conservative that believe in fiscal responsiblity, less centralized govertnment that is harder to check and account, more local powers with the idea that the community can get more on hands and involved at that level. Cutting down waste or govertnment efficiency can always be good. Remember the border stuff or election security, Pelosi and obama herself just before this hoopla was asking for to update both technologies...thats a good thing. Of course trump turned it into some reality show infomercial level of splicity that shows he has no understanding of anything intricate. Does it indict the entire party? Does biden and clinton's history, choices from incarceration, from war both historically costly represent the democratic party because thats who were their last two candidates? With media influence, the amount of money needed, name recognition there are a lot of things that skew these elections to established forced. I'd argue neither parties seem to stand for much but their own power.

It works for Fox, it works for MSNBC and CNN. Divide and conquer. The media wins big ratings and a reliable base, politicians can avoid personal attacks and say its a witch hunter against conservatives or liberals as they all line their lifestyles and put power over people.

Anyways, some greatest hits from how simple Trump knows he can manipulate his followers to thinking he's Orange Jesus.

“The final key to the way I promote is bravado. I play to people’s fantasies. People may not always think big themselves, but they can still get very excited by those who do. That’s why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular. I call it truthful hyperbole. It’s an innocent form of exaggeration—and a very effective form of promotion.”

I coined the term to try to capture something important that has evolved in this country. In the ‘60s, almost everything in America becomes entertainment. Everything in America is like show business. That's the genesis of the idea that I saw happening as early as the 1800s when I started looking at it. In the 1830s, for example, we had newspapers publishing hoaxes as though they were news and religious evangelists going around the country advertising themselves in newspapers and performing as though it was a night at the theater. This accelerated in the 19th and especially the 20th century with Hollywood and television.

America has collapsed the space between entertainment and news, reality and unreality, serious and unserious. This weird cocktail is part of American life, part of our culture and value system.

    Kurt Andersen
No, it’s much more than that. It’s not just Hollywood. I actually point to something like the 2008 financial collapse as an example. The financial industry became part of the fantasy-industrial complex because they were selling a fantasy of real estate, a belief that people with lousy credit should be given giant loans, that the value would just keep going up, that the bubble wasn’t real, that the whole house of cards would just keep going forever. That was pure fantasy, propped up by a country conditioned to believe anything.

At the end of the last century, the people in the wrestling business realized that they didn’t have to pretend that this was real anymore. The whole thing was built on this assumption that you had to pretend it was real. But they realized that people don’t care if it’s real or fake; they just want to be entertained.

I think that’s the attitude people have about damn near everything now — politics, theatre, professional wrestling, sports, you name it.

    Sean Illing
I’m obliged at this point to note that Donald Trump is a member of the WWE “Hall of Fame.”

    Kurt Andersen
    Exactly.

Don't forget who ends up president in this movie, sort of similar to the Biff in back to the future, people choosing politicians like they choose superhero movies...doesn't and has never bode well for an actual democraccy of people unless its like tilman, most people want to be led...

Usually, when something goes extreme or is extremely controversial by its own or its followers, it grabs the attention of everyone that wasn't so extreme.

For example, no one, except for a few diehard fans, cared about Lin until Linsanity.

I would love to go back to not caring about the state of the Republican party. But like Linsanity, once it's popped, it's going to take a long time to forget and move on. Now, that's with Lin trying to stay away from the crazies, but his fan is quite insisting. Imagine if Lin hype himself up with all kinds of BS today, insisting that he's better than MJ but was a victim of the mass media and anti-Asian establishment inside the NBA franchise. The current state of the Republican party is like those LOFs that follow a BS master, except they can fk up our nation for real, you know.

I mean she’s not lying. My guess is she’s the favorite at this time to be Trumps new VP running mate. She’s basically Trumps main surrogate at this point. The same nutcases that were attracted to Trump are the same people who agree completely and will love her too.

Matt Geatz (or Butthead) I take a lot less seriously. The guy has no future and looks like he’ll be in jail for some time anyways.

the Lin comparison is very good, and makes sense to me. but it seems like the obsessives in this thread are the LOFs, no? normal people just don't care about Lin, or about the Republican party for that matter

Do you live in Texas? I do, and that's why I care about bringing up the flat out lies, propaganda, and downright BS our Republican leaders who run this state spurt out. They disgust me. Their priorities are whacked! Ted Cruz needs to go. He has become nothing more than a Goebbels type feeder of propaganda. Deflect and distort the truth is all he does now. Then we have Paxton, who has somehow gone years without facing trial for felony charges. Those two, and others were all a big part of the BS leading up to the Capitol riots.
