hope they make captain sjw aka marvel as the baddie. she needs to be killed and deleted from the mcu. she almost ruined end game
Marvel's premiere characters were spiderman, wolverine/ xmen, ff4, and hulk. That's why those movies came out first. Ironman was definitely a b level superhero that marvel made big.
Before James Gunn directed Guardians of the Galaxy his claim to fame/shame was directing two Scooby Doo movies Before Taika Waikiki directed Thor Raganork who on here saw his other movies, Boy or What We Do In The Shadows? I'd venture not many. Before directing both Ant Man movies Peyton Reed's track record was rom coms Hell, the Russo brothers' last film before the Winter Soldier was You, Me, and Dupree Feige and MCU has gambled on directors before and most of their bets have paid off. Even when it didn't pan out (Captain Marvel; replacing Favreau with Shane Black for Iron man 3) the movie did enough to keep the Marvel universe woven. If anything this is the perfect time to gamble because everything is pretty much starting at ground zero right now. If the Eternals becomes a successful movie then sequels will come; if it doesn't pan out that way then the characters/cast will make their cameo appearances in the bigger MCU event movie(s) down the road. Feige is basically fishing right now to see if any character/actor can rise to the occasion and be their next RDJ/Iron Man. Honestly no one could have predicted RDJ/Iron Man's impact on the MCU when the first one came out and whoever tells you otherwise is a pretty big liar.
They don't really have to explain that just like they did not explain what the Xmen the Fantastic Four or the Inhumans, even in the trailer they say they don't get involved. What was Cap Marvel doing during Infinity War didn't she know what was happening or what was she doing the entire 1st part of Endgame? They really don't have to explain all of the stuff to make a movie work if its good, sometimes those origin stories just bog down everything, Black Widow and Hawkeye did not get an origin story. I agree it is no easy task but I don't agree this movie has combine everything nor set up the next Marvel movies, who said Feige is following the same gameplan?
I'll give you James Gunn, but Waikiki's 2 movies prior to Ragnarok were critically acclaimed. And at this point, Ant-Man has heavy rom-com vibes with superheroes added in. Ant-Man requires Rudd and Lilly's chemistry to work. I don't think Feige is digging for the next RDJ, because they really don't need to. Marvel can go full on 2004 Detroit Pistons and have an ensemble team for the next Avengers-style teamup, rather than a 2021 Brooklyn Nets where the big 3 of Iron Man / Cap / Thor gets help from surrounding pieces. The notion is even on-the-nose in the trailer, because the leader of the Eternals jokes about how he could lead the Avengers. That scene might not make it to the final movie, but it's funny.
I was responding to your remark about At this point, trusting Feige and Disney is the safer bet than to say "well we know Zhao can do indie movies but big Marvel movies? I don't now...." and be skeptical because, again, they've done it time (Gunn) and time (Waikiki) and time (Reed) and time (Russo brothers) again where comic book properties were given to directors with little to zero experience with big budget movies and/or action movies and have succeeded. Most movie goers who never picked up a comic didn't know anything about Star Lord or Drax but Guardians was hugely successful under Gunn's helm. The Thor franchise was practically on life support until Waikiki put his own spin on Thor and resuscitated that franchise pretty much by himself. Ant-Man was a D-list superhero but the movies have been well received because Reed put his own spin on it. I wouldn't be surprised if Zhao did the same with the Eternals. As for Feige not digging for the next RDJ, MCU needs a tentpole of some kind because big events like an Endgame can get pretty stale and redundant if you don't have characters/actors (RDJ, Chris Evans) you can connect to and root for. It could be the Eternals, it could be the X-men, it could be the Fantastic Four...it could even be Florence Pugh's Black Widow. To sustain their success, MCU needs something that can anchor their whole universe if/when a movie event like Endgame happens again.
Never read the comics - not really familiar with the characters - but i got the impression they were supposed to be like 40 feet tall in the ink version. Also thought that they wore goofy looking outfits with lots of odd bits hanging off that masked their faces. Its weird that they are going with both Robb Stark and John Snow as main characters. It kind of messes with my ability to ignore the fact that both actors are so well know for Game of Thrones. One or the other I could get past it, but both seems like they are leaning into it. Im going to spend the whole movie looking for Game of Thrones references.
The difference between the Eternals and those other properties, is that they directly reference how they help (or don't help) other beings. If the entire action of using the Infinity Gauntlet was just to wipe out half of only Earth's population, then yeah, I could see why the Eternals wouldn't be bothered to respond. But snapping fingers on the IG wiped out half of all populations. It'd be really strange for the Eternals not to respond or reference anything about what happened prior. And I think Thanos is supposed to be related in some form or fashion to the Eternals. So that's even worse if the movie doesn't talk at all about Thanos. I'm down with starting anew and completely refreshing the slate. But there's too much linking the Eternals with Infinity War and Endgame, for it not to matter. The joke about how Ikaris (leader of Eternals) thinks he should now lead the Avengers, clues you in on how much the Eternals are involved with earthly matters. While it's a new property and a new phase of Marvel movies, it's still a shared universe. I could be wrong, but I think the plan for Feige is the same. Have a bunch of movies with a bunch of new, different superheroes, and have them all team up in some way against a really big bad.
Like the prometheus vibe, however, the trailer didn't really lock in on anything to get me excited. Thought it looked good visually. The comedy though seemed to take away from the effect of "Something bigger." If these beings are throwing around jokes it will take away from the mystery of who the hell are they. I get that they are human, sort of, but think they need to come across as something more. The Guardians were supposedly normal people who we discover have extraordinary abilities and relationships when they work together and discover who they are. The Externals appear to be extraordinary right out of the gate. Will watch it. But still need to know more.
I agree, something will be said but I don't think the movie hinges on this and I don't think it hinges on tying everything together like you said. Just like comic books don't tie everything together all the time, the movies success does not depend on how they link everything IMO.
Exactly. A Racoon and a Tree. Do these things strike you as saviors of the universe? We kick them to the curb everyday.
