This issue demonstrates why poor blacks are stuck

Instead of addressing poor performance vs high achieving at it's root causes. Asian parents are supportive, motivating, etc, inner city parents not so much.

So sweep the problem under the rug.

Parents are very important in this process.
Ultimately it’s up to the kid to motivate himself and breakaway from group think.

Well we could make all schools good and eliminate the divide and conquer effect ala Scandinavia. This would not stop folks from striving and working very hard at the neighborhood school, which would make it easier for nearby families. It could conceivably could require more corporate taxes and reduce the portfolio of the big guys and the usual little guy suspects on the forum.

the challenge should be how to get black and latinos to perform better, not attack the measure unless there is actual evidence the test is racist.

I started a thread 16 years ago on a tax increase on businesses in Texas to increase school funding. The thread issue was the small business I worked for wanted us to write a letter to the state opposing the tax.

Anyway @MadMax wrote a brilliant post on how business benefits from people getting public education

I would argue that the majority of kids who do well in school are motivated by their parents (or forced). Most teenagers think they know everything about life already and wouldn’t try hard in school if not for parental pressure or support.

As a person that favors MERIT, I also recognize that there needs to be some fair play for kids that have additional barriers to entry.

IMHO, we should remove the RACE tag from all applications......and stop using it as relevent...and start dealing with inequity of standard of living.

There should be a merit test for being a Rockets fan too
We’d dominate it and then fake fans would cry and want to be easier because they can’t answer which stripclub does Harden frequent the most

Yeah usually the right thing to do is make your kid study harder if they fail a test not blame the test for being too easy for smart kids

I want to confront her and ask her why do you believe this is the solution rather than doing things like solving the wealth gap and providing better resources in these neighborhoods so these children eventually can match those scores?

The tests themselves don't have racial bias. It's the economic disparity that results in kids having less resources to reach their full potential.
