I agree with this too. It's worth a chance for a high ceiling player like Jalen Johnson but I wouldn't do it for Jared Butler or Davion Mitchell despite the fact that they are better players with more polish. Johnson is 6'9" , fast and is multidimensional. High risk and high reward here. I think there will be changes starting from 5 downwards after the workouts.
I love Scottie Barnes. And I believe Jalen Johnson is top 10 talent with as much or more upside than Kuminga. Would trade down if Suggs and Kuminga were Rockets only options at 4th spot. Keon Johnson is also underrated.
6'3 Bones Hyland, 6'8 Kessler Edward's, 6'10 JT Thor, 6'9 Trey Murphy. All great value in 2nd round. I would also add 6'5 Scottie Lewis, 6'10 Vrenz Bleijenbergh and 6'8 Herb Jones. This draft is so dang deep. Trade Avery Bradley for a 2nd.
May the basketball gods bless us with this kid. And Adam silver definitely owes us because we traded harden where all of the the NBA world wanted him to go.
Bradley is sliding down. Is D.J. Wilson a FA? I think he has a little more trade value than Avery Bradley right now.
Watching these play in games and the playoff intensity. Whoever we draft, man, please just get us back into the picture ASAP. I miss that feeling. I miss the clinched cheeks. I miss the stress and anxiety and the hoarse voice.
Not sold on Mobley’s defensive ability and he doesn’t look as skilled as earlier top big man prospects. Cade, Suggs and Green are likely all-stars with HOF upside. I definitely don’t see a Kawhi in Kuminga; I would take Barnes over him. Dream scenario is drafting Cade and using the latter two picks to trade up for Wagner.
Cannot trade DJ Wilson because he is a FA. Maybe you are thinking of DJ Augustin, who can be traded because still under contract. Still say both Bradley and House should merit a SRP each.
We aren’t picking up Bradley’s option. The point of his contract was to create more space. What that space is for is another issue. Need some vets around and Augustin would be worthwhile. The Philly tank didn’t really produce many NBA players. We need a decent mix of vets and not just have a roster full of rookies and journeyman. We will still be bad.
Thanks. I wasn't thinking of Augustin. I know he is contracted with us for another year, I believe. House could easily have gotten us a SRP, perhaps even two of them, if it wasn't for his nosedive after the OKC playoff performance. His injuries have compounded the problem.
I'm ok with that. I would play Jalen Green at SG and Porter as SF. Cleveland played Porter at SF but I believe Sexton controlled the ball. If Cavs did run him as point forward, he is more mature now. Truly believe Porter is more like 6'6" than 6'4". After watching more video on Cade Cunningham.....he probably is better at guarding SG's than Porter. Of course that is, if the Rockets draft Cade. This season: Porter 47.9% (3-pt DFG%)...........68.0% ( < 6ft DFG%). Guarding SF's on perimeter may be better suited for Porter. [according to NBA.com]
Porter is a PG. The Rockets did not invest an entire season to groom him as PG to just switch him back to SF. And Porter is a very good young PG, makes no sense to cut off their nose to spite their face.
CB was no slouch athletically and if you read this write up I think you'll see the similarities... http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Chauncey-Billups-1684/ To me Ja is a little more fancy and offensively focused then I see Suggs being. Comparing Suggs to CB is a pretty decent compliment, Billups' nickname was Mr. Big Shot and he led the Pistons to the 2004 NBA Championship, where he was the Finals MVP. CB was the #3 pick in the '97 Draft and it took him a while to find his role, but at age 25 it came together for him and enjoyed a long career. Suggs can be a combo guard like CB, but will likely play PG mainly depending on who drafts him. I like his defensive intensity and think he'll contribute immediately on that end, as well as being a strong PG for what ever team gets him.
Mon Ami, Porter is very young and not mature enough. He is a scoring guard with good passing skills. He should be kept at the 1 right now. He can definitely defend 3's better than 1's. That's okay.
Yes my friend. The rule of thumb is, "your position is who you guard predominantly." I've had Cade Cunningham as being the SF because I would have him guard the SF. But on second thought I would rather have Cade guard the SG when playing simultaneously next to Porter or Cade or Jalen Green. On offense, yes we may have 3 number one's on the court at the same time: Wall, Porter, Cade Cunningham. Point Guard, Point SG, and Point SF.
Not having a top notch defensive assistant coach hurt us badly. Porter can definitely improve as a potential defender, he has quick feet and decent lateral quickness. He needs a lot of guidance. This will enable him to guard 1's and 2's. The Rockets should take all steps needed to improve defense and rebounding and that starts with coaching and clever drafting.
Players have to want to play defense. Harden took plays off many times; but we all knew he could play defense. Porter can as well. JVG/Thibs/Pat Riley could have coached defense......still would have been poor. Put yourself in the mind of a defensive coach. The mindset would be give me taller longer players. Not give me short s*** 's and skinny s*** 's. Instead of giving our defensive coaches clay to mold we gave them play dough.
