Well, these haven't been released to the public, but Congress saw them and ... wow. Selected quotes follow: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4855930/ advertisement “I expected that these pictures would be very hard on the stomach lining, and it was significantly worse than anything that I had anticipated,” said Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore. “Take the worse case and multiply it several times over.” ... Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., called the images “appalling,” saying they “go beyond” what much of the world has already seen in photos broadcast and published earlier this month. ... “The whole thing is disgusting, and it’s hard to believe that this actually is taking place in a military facility,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. ... Ben Nighthorse Campbell, R-Colo., said: “I don't know how the hell these people got into our Army.”
There are rumors that the pictures of the British troops might be fake because the uniforms are not the ones actually used in Iraq right now etc.
I have no problem with sexual humiliation and view it as a preferred alternative to physical abuse, when possible. If sexual humiliation gets people to talk, then I'm all for it. So yes, Batman, you are correct. I support this. I find it very hard to muster any type of sympathy for terrorists and insurgents who attempt to put US lives in danger. I believe any method possible should be employed in order to extract life-saving information from these madmen and savages. I also believe that it is important to know what exactly the people depicted did to merit this punishment. The Red Cross and Taguba have detailed *some* of the prisoners in Abu Ghraib's stories, but we still don't know for sure the full story of any of the people depicted here. These could very well be the worst of the worst, in which case I wholeheartedly support this form of coercion.
Damnit, use some common sense here. Posting links to legit news stories are one thing. Posting naked (or mostly naked) men in sexual positions is no better than posting Lindsay Lohan nipple slips. Oh, and TJ, you reported RM95's post to the moderators but not the actual photos??? Somehow I don't see his teasing you as worse.
Jeff, those photos are all over the internet, that's why I didn't report them. Do you suggest I not use the report to moderator function when people use the accusation of homosexuality as an insult? I reported the post because calling someone 'gay' is very juvenile and a backhanded slap in the face to those that are homosexual (I myself am not).
so showing saddam being 'degraded' is ok but showing other less important prisoners is not? am i the only one here who thinks this is hypcorisy?
I'm saying use it when it is REALLY necessary. SUGGESTING you might be gay is not even remotely close to some of the insults hurled on this site, many of which have come from you. I mean, jeebus, if the mods had to chase down every single post that suggested insult, we'd end up doing NOTHING but that. If your skin isn't thick enough to handle mild backhanded comments when you so easily dispense with them yourself, maybe you shouldn't be on here.
I didn't call you gay as an insult. You've never explained why you were over at that site and I'm still annoyed that you weren't banned for starting a thread to insult me when others have been banned for doing the same thing.
Just for the record, NO photos like this or any other kind should be on here. EVER. I only removed these because I saw them, but the moderators don't have time to police every single photo posting.
