Atlanta Hawks interim coach Nate McMillan fined $25,000 for saying NBA wants New York Knicks in playoffs:
    https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...000-saying-nba-wants-new-york-knicks-playoffs

Kudos to Nate for stepping up for his guys before the series started. Wish D'antoni or Morey tried it at least once before our series against GSW:

"Absolutely, I've talked about that to the team a lot. Basically, I've gone as far as saying the league wants this," he said. "They need this, New York, this is a big market for the league, and New York has been out of the playoffs for a number of years.

"And this is a team that our league, they want to see -- there's a huge fan base -- and they want to see New York in the playoffs." He added: "The league wants to see it, everybody wants to see this. Even to the fact that our [opening] game was moved to Sunday, they want to see this.

"So, yes, we have talked about that, about the advantages of this situation and some things that we're going to have to face, going into [Game 1], with everyone picking New York to win and a lot of folks wanting to see New York in the playoffs. It's a battle, it's a challenge, just playing New York, all that comes with it. ... They've had a really good season, and I think the NBA is excited about having them back in the playoffs."

McMillan also said on the call that "there's going to be a lot of calls that probably won't go our way," explaining how his team needs to remain calm under the pressure.

He isn't lying about anything but he didn't say its actually rigged. You get advantages sure as a home team etc sure but that goes for other teams as well. Prepping his team for their 1st playoffs with this team on what typically to expect. He should be doing that

Is there a difference between scripted and rigged? The NBA is scripted. Every once in a while a player or team throws a monkey wrench into the machine and the script gets flipped, but the NBA certainly wants certain outcomes and actively manipulates the league to attain them.

The average person probably groups the two together depending on your angle. being scripted/rigged has always been relative to how specific outcomes happen and whether people wanted that outcome to happen or not. People try to say this and that are rigged all the time and yet the opposite happens all the time. But regency bias always comes into play. If it was completely scripted and rigged, gambling wouldn't be as hard as it is and there isn't anyone in the world that gets it all right

Is every game rigged/scripted? I'd say no. But point shaving is definitely a thing. There's just too much money involved no to from a number of parties

This has been going on for a length of time. The only time it wasn’t scripted was when the Rockets won the cup back to back. We haven’t won since.

If you truly know this, how can you NOT question some of Harden’s quitting episodes in critical playoff moments? Especially that game 5 vs SAS without Kawhi

It's one thing to script it, another to have the players perform their parts according to the script. With Jordan out of the way, the league could have scripted players like Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, David Robinson, or Shaq to win, but Hakeem and them weren't having it.

Harden isn’t the only curious performance. Just the other night, Westbrook played a terrible game and left 6 minutes before the game ended. Could Westbrook had received an order to stand down and move out of the way? Could him going back to the locker room had been his protest? I dunno. Kawhi had a weird series against the Nuggets. He turned to absolute trash down the stretch. What about LeBron's play against Mavs in 2011? So much I dunno. :confused:o_O

Of course the NBA is rigged. It's downright naive when people still deny this in 2021. They see how money corrupts just about every other part of our society in incredibly insidious ways. From dating to our prison systems to congress... Yet it's so hard to believe that a private, for-profit sports league is willing to do some shady things to make more money?

It's not the WWF. The games aren't fixed (not the same thing as "rigged"), and the players aren't actors... But there are definitely mechanisms in place to make certain outcomes more likely than others, and officiating is one.

They hate us for beating the New York Knicks and winning our 1st NBA championship. This isn't going to go away.

You could tell how shocking it was for the players and everyone else. They had no business as a 6th seed winning anything. Now the league let the Lakers fall to 6th seed by n playing Lebron and AD. They barely beat the Warriors.

but miguel yordan embarrassed them on the regular in the 90s, much worse than hakeem. but the media can't stop repeating that move where yordan cornered himself and then snuck by the baseline behind ewing and slamma jamma. they truly are an enigma

That's a pro wrestling fan not an NBA fan.
