sounds like scorched earth. the fine fella needs to be s - t - r - e - t - c - h - e - d to avoid scorching Rox ensuing earth.
If Wall is willing to take any kind of a discount right now, don't you have to consider this? Like if he comes to Tilman and says he'll accept a buyout and is willing to get give back $5M-$10M of the $92 million the Rockets are going to pay him, I would seriously do it in a heartbeat. The Rockets aren't winning anything for a while, and having him on the roster is detrimental to the growth of whatever that young roster looks like the next two seasons.
Another way to look at it is if they retain him, and don’t buy him out, he will be a YUGE trade asset in a couple years, just when the toddlers will start going to college.... Plus he’s essential if they want to tank for another year... Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
Literally the worst option is stretching his contract over more seasons, artificially lowering the Rockets cap and getting absolutely nothing back for it. At least have the honor to pay the contract you signed up for, get what you get from the guy and see what comes up. Maybe he gets desperate, maybe a team with a rich owner like Mavs or Clippers steps in and makes it easy but you don't get to find out if you don't have the honor, the guts or the fortitude to move onward. Burning the cap instead of burning draft picks is equally stupid and if it's all Tilman is capable of as team owner then we need to revolt NOW or we'll never get to see our Rockets matter again. Very bad. Literally the worst. Holy hell.
There’s no benefit to a buyout of wall right now besides fan enjoyment. It doesn’t help the cap situation. All it does is free up a roster space, which based on Walls health injury, is betting against yourself
If Wall really wants a better situation, he could decline his player option for the year after next and probably be trade as a huge expirng. Otherwise, why wouldn't you just wait till next year and trade him as a huge expiring then? unless there is some grand plan to get back to championship status in the next 3 months that requires cap space they could magically get that im unaware of.
What rumors? What am I missing? And who would fill the vital role of tank commander should we buy him out?
Absolutely NO benefit to buy out Wall , hell its the absolute worst thing they could do in terms of the cap , flexibility & asset management.
His value is at rock bottom. You don't trade him now. It will only increase as he gets closer to expiration. You definitely don't buy him out at his price. He's stuck. The price of getting greedy and signing on the dotted line for a dollar figure you are under qualified for. You don't get to leave.
