Highly unlikely. That HR was cool and all, but he’s still sitting on 14 k in 32 ab. Maybe if over his next 170 ab he strikes out less than 10 times while hitting 10 more HR we might start thinking about calling him up. Based on his first 2 weeks he won’t be ready this year.
What is the story on Jonathan Bermudez? All I know is that he had TJ in high school, was throwing 92-93 in college, and is striking out 50% of the batters he's faced in 10 innings in AA this year. Guys striking out that many batters either regress quickly or get to majors quickly.
He made the '20-21 10th Grade Honor Roll (with Distinction) at Greece Olympia HS in Rochester, NY. https://www.monroecopost.com/story/...-releases-3rd-quarter-honor-rolls/5079718001/ Other than that, I got nothing.
Not much out there. Lefty, late round pick, injury history, nothing notable prior to 2019. 2019 had high k rate like you said. Off to a great start in AA. He’s already 25, so would likely move fast if he keeps this up.
CSB/Tried to take my family to this game today. Checked radar, said it would clear out shortly after first pitch. Got there early, 5 min before game time they announce a 1 hour delay. We wait an hour. 5 min before the delay was supposed to end, they announce another 1 hour delay. Packed up and went to eat planning to come back. Thankfully they announce the postpone before we came back. So we sat in the stadium (with a very patient 2 year old and 5 year old) for almost 2 hours and nary a baseball in sight. Ice cream was good though. \csb
With them having an off day and Framber/Odo on the way back I think they’ll start Bielak and have Emanuel/Abreu ready to throw multiple innings.
Goldstein comped Jeremy Pena to Edgar Renteria today. That would be a fantastic outcome as Rentera was worth 35 fwar across 9000 MLB pa, posting star caliber production from 2002-2007.
Fayetteville added Luis Vega to their roster. He's a 19 year old Cuban pitcher who was really good as a 17 year old in the DSL. He has been on the others of note section for fangraphs the last couple years described as a pitchability righty with a bunch of average pitches. He's also listed as 6'3" 165, so I would think there's at least some projection. Jose Alvarez was also added to the Fayetteville roster recently. He's a 20 year old catcher who signed at the same time as Nerio Rodriguez. He was considered an under the radar signing who was particularly athletic for a catcher. After a poor introduction to pro ball, he tore up a repeat of the DSL and held his own in the GCL in 2019. He is off to a hot start, and adds to the surprising depth of Astros catching prospects.
Framber made his first rehab start in game one of the doubleheader in Round Rock. Gave up five runs... only one of them was earned, though. 3 IP, 7 H, 5 R (1 ER), 3 K
My brother was there, he got lots of groundballs (I checked, 9 in the 1st) - a couple were hard hit, but the rest not so much - in the first and looked maybe a little frustrated with the defense behind him and the placement of the grounders. They were jumping on him in the first couple of pitches most of the time. Settled down in the last 2 innings (all 3 Ks, 1 hit, an oppo field double to a 31 year old with MLB time).
