I'm friends with lots of restaurant owners and they are all having problems finding workers. Only 1 in 10 actually show up for interviews. They literally schedule interviews just to stay eligible for underemployment. Some even have the audacity to ask to get paid under the table so they can continue getting their money.

And I wouldn't be against tapering off federal benefits faster, but the sector also notoriously underpays its workers. Credit card debt decreasing... savings rising... millions of jobs available... The economy will be fine. The jobs will get filled.

You didn't address my point at all. Nice deflection.

Pretty sure I did it concisely.... All the job openings corresponds to the sector(s) that got hit the hardest. Middle class americans are sitting on decreasing credit card debt and rising savings. Many tailwinds for the economy.

Sounds like a simple solution is the open market. Seems like your friends aren't paying enough to compete.

It's very simple. If you can't hire anyone, pay more. You built a business plan that is only profitable when you pay your workers the minimum wage? Oh well that's too bad, boot strap yourself up so that your business can thrive.

Country is facing a lot of issues, but its nice to have temporary relief from the nutjob Republican Party.

Biden doing everything he is supposed to be doing, which is exactly what you want.

If you are paid 40K a year to sit on your ass, what amount of money would get you off of it?

Standard Unemployment in Texas goes up to $535 a week. Federal unemployment adds $300, so that is $835 week. Multiple that by 52 weeks.

To add, my brother in law lives in Colorado. When the added benefit was 600 dollars a week last year, he was getting 6000 a month to stay home.

"Standard Unemployment in Texas goes up to $535 a week"

So what's the unemployment for a restaurant worker?

If you made 50K last year, then the benefit would 500 dollars plus 300 dollars a week, so 40K a year.

If you made 10K in any 3 month period last year, you would get $400+$300 per week which would be $36400 per year. In other words we are paying everyone making 20 dollars an hour or less to stay at home.

This is a personal story but my day to day interactions with friends, family, and people in general have been less...political?

Like during Trump, politics could literally come up at any moment. My mom was OBSESSED with politics like I never saw her before. Always sharing stories about how bad Trump was, etc etc and just in general it felt like a lot more people turned political.

I think that's evident in the voting numbers we saw, a huge turnout. Not only did Trump activate conservatives but he activated a ton of people on the other side as well with how toxic he was.

That's really all I wanted to add. Of course I prefer Biden's America to Trump's and so far I really have no major complaints. As someone that is more of a progressive, if anything he's pleasantly surprised me.

Seems like President Biden is making good faith efforts to work with republicans in congress to deliver for the American people. Contrast this with the previous administration...

Gig workers arent making any additional state UI. Your theory literally makes no sense. The only folks getting 535 a week from the state had professional jobs. The federal UI comes out to less then 7 bucks an hour after taxes. Youre a moron

Alot of restaurant owners are scum and underpay their staff.

Kitchen jobs for $10 to $12 per hour.

Pay servers $2.13 an hour (with no benefits at all) and let the guests pay their wages.

But also take 20% to 40% of the server's tips and reallocate them to other low paying positions (hostess, bartender)

Its a scam and should be illegal

Who said gig workers. I said restaurant workers. They get unemployment if they get laid off assuming they were working full time which pretty much all kitchen staff works.
