lol even Bill has had it with Tilman. No one wants to be around that douchebag. One of his sons should do the play by play broadcasting. Elite damage control every game!
Good for Worrell - he was starting to look like the Emperor from the first 3 Star Wars movies so I would say it's time. He is probably a decade overdue to retire from broadcasting, but you can't fault the guy for loving Rockets basketball and wanting to make it last as long as possible. I have been watching him since I was a little kid in the Akeem days when Hannah Storm was the sideline reporter so he is definitely a nostalgic part of my Houston memories(along with Marvin Zindler, Mattress Mac, and the Astrodome) but I've long since moved from Houston and as much as I got love for him, I also recognize the need for a more updated broadcast crew because it very much felt like your parents or maybe even grandparent's broadcast crew. A 70+yr old white guy trying to relate to a fan base that is mostly POCs under the age of 45 just felt painfully awkward. I hope the organization takes this opportunity to breath some life into the broadcast crew and doesn't just try to just sub out Worrell and keep Bull and Clyde along for no good reason. Honestly, Worrell made those two somewhat bearable....and if anyone from the org is reading this, I'm available to audition for the announcer this team and city deserves.
This is very over due, on the Rocket's Instagram page I was surprised how many people liked Bill, but then again most of those people do not even watch games. He has been horrific for 15+ years. I am guessing he was actually fired. I will not miss this clown at all. There are stories on this guy that his career should have ended a while ago, especially with cancel culture where it is today. I will not miss his HOOOOO!!! and embarrassing commentary at all. This guy screwed up the call on Harden's 60 point triple double when it happened, it was probably the best individual performance in franchise history, and we will be reminded of it every time we watch it. His lack of knowledge and lack of desire to keep up with the game was a lazy effort and why this broadcast team has consistently been ranked dead last in the NBA for years. Good riddance.
I guess I am in the group that would say the exact opposite. Jim and Gene were legends, Worrell was a horrific train wreck from tip off. Most of the people I knew would mute the TV and listen to the radio broadcast, it was worth the delayed calls, that is my opinion on Bill.
That's funny, because I'm surprised there's any Rockets fans that don't like him. Granted, there only appears to be a few as evidenced by this thread. I think people are reading to much into that one poll that was done several years ago when Drexler was on the mic. I think there's probably a lot of noise in that. 1.) Drexler was in the booth 2.) The squad has been fairly consistent over a long period, which makes them more recognizable...some announcing teams around the league seem to change every other year, so who the hell even remembers them. 3.) Rockets were on NBA TV a lot over the last decade due to winning, so more opportunities for other fans to see our announcing squad and recongize them. 4.) They've been top 3 in winning percentage over the past 20 years, so people probably hate hearing the other teams announcers even more when they're team is consistently losing to said team. ' 5.) Worrell and squad loved Harden and praised him constantly, while the rest of the NBA and its fans hated Harden more than anyone else in the league. You can't tell me that didn't bother the rest of the fans of the other 29 NBA teams that had to listen to Rockets broadcasts. Anyway, just my two cents that it was probably a pretty uncontrolled, half-assed poll that gives no real meaning or insight into Bill as an announcer. Surprised that someone who is clearly is in love with Harden would be so critical of Bill having the audacity to make a mistake on a call to your hero, while announcers of the other 29 teams actively threw shade at Harden's game and could never bring themselves to recognize his greatness. You must have REALLY hated those guys.
I would love VM doing the broadcast. Really doesn’t matter to me as long as they stick to the game. Watched Bill his entire career. Started off great but sucked to high he’ll the last couple of years with Murphy and never really recovered after that. Turned into an annoying distraction.
That's fair...but in all likelihood it will be Ackerman replacing him. Yes he is younger, but I'm fairly certain he may even be whiter than Bill, so not sure if anything is going to change much with regards to that.
I'm sure everyone is just having fun, but there is no chance in hell that any team in the league is giving Mad Max an open mic LOL. The NBA may even step in if the Rockets announced Vernon was entering the booth.
A good man who loved the team and had some talent to lean in with. Might surprise some of the whippersnappers in here, but many of us grew up listening to the Rockets on radio and Worrell was "newfangled."
Many great moments listening to Bill try to pick up the awkward silence after Clyde says something weird
Max would be promptly fired for inappropriate and suggestive language after our first game against the Jazz.
I don' tthink Worrell is being forced out by Ferntits at all. I think Fertits had has turned this organization into such a **** pile, Worrell didn't want to be a part of it anymore and chose to leave. Jut like Morey, Harden, D'Antoni, Tad Brown, Westbrook (which I'm grateful for). I'm sure I'm foretting others.
One the best home team broadcasters. So many other teams have some snyde cookie cutters that are annoying.
