Yes American men and domestic violence seems to be the issue. Having a gun makes you kill your partner?

    @rockbox

We do know America is a violent country. It would be nice to not have guns but that's not gonna happen. You can't weed out potential abusive men through gun sales. That's unrealistic.

Eliminating AR-15s is gonna improve domestic violence? You have to address domestic violence to improve this situation

I just wished people would actually try to address the issues with facts. Over 90 percent of gun violence are committed with hand guns. Let's spend our time getting a better handle on hand guns versus arguing what the definition of an assault rifle is.

They have domestic violence problems in other countries, many worse than here. But they don't have the guns at hand to make it a murder.

I'm also fine with getting rid of handguns.

The fact is, the gun laws are too loose. I am all for banning handguns, and at the least, making fun safety classes mandatory, and an annual gun license that requires annual background checks for any assault charges, mental health issues, or criminal charges. A lot can change after some crazy gets a gun in their hands

This is just silly. Humans have been brutalizing each other since the beginning yes. And even very recently in this country where the rule of law was either ignored (lynching in the South) or not really enforced (Wild west).

However and thankfully in the last 100 years or so in this and most industrialized nations we follow the laws and it’s no longer a case of might makes right. That’s the natural evolution of a progressive society. Safety and security are rights of a citizen. Protected by the military and the police. We’ve made that step and I would think most people are happy to live in a free country where they can go as far as their talent and will can lead them.

The next step is to eventually rid ourselves of private handgun ownership altogether. Japan, Australia, and others have done this and eventually we will too. But like most everything else in this country (women’s suffrage, child labor laws, gay marriage, etc etc) it takes us decades longer than it should to get it done.

The topic you spoke about says Houston clearly in the title

don’t fall for their tactics because these fake Rockets fans don’t know where Houston is or even stepped foot in Toyota center or the summit

There’s also a chance the Rockets win the nba championship this year too

    The original issue

If the original shooter was a known domestic abuser then he should have his firearms remove and license revoked

But the problem now is that criminals are easily let out and the system is not tough enough on abusers

    especially in Houston .
A drunk driver got off on cheap bond this week for killing a cyclist. It’s got to stop.

Exactly but it's unrealistic to try to eliminate them

The first thing is the media needs to be honest about the statistics. Gun laws only become a topic when a mass shooting happens.

The NRA knows the statistics. The vast majority of gun deaths happen in inner city violence. They know making law abiding citizens wait a few days in a background check isn't going to change the numbers.

Liberals and black people are not being honest and where the gun violence is. Chicago gang members don't buy their guns at Walmart or Dick's.

You won't make any political headway on gun laws until there is honesty

    Criminals obtain their guns illegally
I mean that’s been known since
    The beginning of firearms

what needs to be done is better correctional programs so when they return to civilization they won’t commit the same crimes

I did forget what Acevedo was specifically criticizing I started this thread no less. On the thread topic the NRA does not have to be so dug in on every gun law but they aren't changing and Republicans use them to gather votes.

Remember last year during the looting
All these people kept trying to break in gun stores ?
And then some of them got shot by the owners

like if I was a criminal , I would steal guns so I can commit more crime
Plus if I know my victim has no gun
    It’s even easier

You don’t have to be Batman to figure this stuff out

Agreed but it's unrealistic to expect America to eliminate gun rights so you are better off focusing your energy on domestic violence

Plenty of people know how dangerous and senseless loose gun laws are, and countries that ban handguns, or make the requirements much stricter to own them have shown it can be done. Throwing arms up in the air and giving up isn't the answer. Leaders with the NRA in their money pockets aren't the answer. We need stricter laws, period. Leaders like Paxton, Abbott, and the rest need to pack sand.

It's like drugs. You need to focus your attention on the kids growing up becoming violent criminals. It's a better focus anyway

You can call it giving up but Americans aren't giving up their guns.

I didn't say give up all guns. I'm talking handguns. Anyway, I'm done debating this with you. We obviously disagree, and nothing you can say will make me think differently about this subject.

I don't have a problem focusing on eliminating assault rifles. I don't have a problem continuing the fight on background checks.

Gun laws won't prevent every day crime. These guns are bought illegally
