Always gonna be a big disadvantage against the yanks till you have an automatic strike zone unfortunately
A relief pitcher in a tough situation making the perfect pitch against a hot hitter... and that ump just didn’t have the guts to ring him up
The more they get shown up on Twitter, the more every website shows where the pitch was in relation to a zone, the more the technology to call robotic zones improve, the more the PLAYERS advocate for it (have they done this?), the more pressure there will be on MLB to do something.
It's not just the Astros, the umps are sketchy league-wide. Have you not seen some of the bs highlights?
Absolutely, it’s horrific all around. But in an Astros vs Yankees playoff series, who do you think will get the benefit of the balls and strikes? edit - the worse the umpires are the better, because as outrage increases we get closer to computerized strike zone
You might see some individual players/coaches (I'm sure there's been some already), but I'm not sure a union will come out and publicly throw another union under the bus. They perceive the common enemy as MLB. Step 1 is testing the technology and making sure it works. They're doing that now in the minors. Step 2 is I don't know
Yeah I know public outcry is at an all time high but the ump union is what I'm worried about. That and the MLB possible being hesitant because of that and the usual sanctity and tradition bs
I just read this but I agree about the unions. That is the biggest hurdle. Who knows how long that will take if it ever happens
I guess. They got replay finally approved... which doesn’t always work. They should be able to figure this out.
They got replay instilled. After that, these aren’t that monumental. the fact that every broadcast has the zone plastered on it is a huge impetus.
