Why does no one care about the Miami Heat? Huge draft pick variance

Currently the Heat after a nice run of wins have moved themselves OUT of the play-in tournament and into 6th seed in the East. This means that their pick is going to be 18th/19th.

The beauty is, if Miami goes into the Play-In Tournament and loses, they could easily go all the way from 7th seed to the lottery. That's a 4-6 improvement in draft spot.

Miami is virtually tied with Boston for the 6th seed, and they have two games against each other which would effectively decide who makes the Playoffs and who has to go in the Play-in tournament.

We need to root for the Miami Heat to lose, it's the best thing that could help our draft position right now since we are already virtually confirmed to be in the bottom 3 ourselves.

I overlooked this, Great info and a pick in the teens can be special. Good silver lining, appreciate it!

I didn’t know how it all worked in regard to losing the play in tournament dropping you down and to a better draft spot. Thanks for the info

No one cares about it because if we get it then that means Houston lost the lotto big time and the season was a massive failure on a much grander scale.

And it's highly unlikely that Miami misses the playoffs so pining away for that chance probably isn't good for your health.

It's cause we all know they're making the playoffs. The record is only that bad cause they were mailing it in early and they got hit by covid pretty hard. They've been much better than their record suggests.

There was an Eastern Conference scout that believed Miami was the best team in the East, and that they have significantly under performed from what they are capable of. On paper they are better than they were last year, and we saw what they did last year. People probably just think the likelihood of a solid pick materializing is small.

Because if we lose our top 4 pick does it really matter? Chances of us getting a star with Miami's pick is slim to none.

Good points. I didn't know that the variance could potentially be that much.

Nobody should care bc Miami is making the playoffs. And going from a top 4 to out of the lottery is nothing to care much about

With the Rockets pretty much guaranteed a bottom 3 record, there is nothing else to hope for other than:

    1. Milwaukee losing
    2. Portland losing but still making the playoffs
    3. Miami missing the playoffs

Getting the Miami pick would be depressing, so I try not to think about it no matter where they land. :(

Because the pick will probably be a guard. Cam Thomas or someone like that.

Can't wait for the NBA to increase the roster to 53 next season

51 guards and 2 stretch 4's seems like a good ratio

True but unfortunately there is a 47.9% of it happening. Trying to maximize the Rockets chances of a better pick, no matter how bad it is.

If we don't get a top-4 pick, OKC will keep the 2 best out of our pick, Miami pick, and their own pick, while we get the worst of the 3. Since the Miami pick will probably be the worst of the 3, that will probably end up being our pick.

We could get ****ed in the whole situation. I did the lottery simulator a dozen times and we finished out of the top 4 more than once and didn't get the #1 pick once.

as others have stated, if we end up with the Miami pick then this season is a huge failure of epic proportions...that is why no one cares about the Miami Heat
