Finally, the one day of the year I'm able to get my drink on. I'm starting in an hour or so at El Patio in Midtown. We'll see where the evening goes from there. Just need to pace myself well enough to enjoy the Rockets kick the tar out of the Jazz tonight. Who's with me? Let's go! <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/K92OVFeGgIE"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/K92OVFeGgIE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
"In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has taken on a significance beyond its significance in Mexico.[4] Commercial interests in the United States have capitalized on the celebration advertising Mexican products and services with an emphasis on beverages, foods, and music. While this commercialism has led Mexicans to regard the U.S. observance of Cinco de Mayo as essentially a commercial contrivance rather than an authentically Mexican event, the date is perhaps best recognized in the United States as a date to celebrate the culture and experiences of Americans of Mexican descent, much like St. Patrick's Day or Oktoberfest being used to celebrate those of Irish and German descent, respectively." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_mayo It's time for honky-crackers to get their drink on in ritzy bars while Mexicans wash the dishes in the back.
ugh. THANK YOU, man... wake these people up... it's celebrated more in the Estados Unidos than in my Mexico. JEEZ. Happy nothing. AND I have to miss the ROCKETS' game... this "Cinco de Crapo" is going to suck as the worst FIFTH of anything ever...
WTF???? o en espaƱol: Que chingaos?? Is a real holiday, not something created like Valentines Day and all that. It commemorates the victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza over the French occupational forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. And it was more like a victory to raise morale, because Napoleon III send more troops to Mexico and then the French takeover of Mexico. But in the US think that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16th ("Dieciseis de septiembre" in Spanish). The Independence day was in 1810, 52 years before the battle of puebla. Here in Mexico they dont celebrate this holiday with a big party and all of that, well only in Puebla.
If anyone gets Bluto, albeit with a keyboard, they get me. If not, what can I say? Other than BANNED!
Cinco de Mayo means $5 margaritas right? Saw a bunch of retired upper-middle income white ladies celebrating at the park this morning.
