Rockets should stop trading for Point Guards

Went from Chris Paul -> Russell Westbrook -> John Wall

    Downgrade -> Downgrade -> Downgrade

Hey at least there is no where down they could go. They already turned an MVP calibre PG in Chris Paul into the worst contract in the NBA (Wall). Oh wait we also gave UP multiple 1sts and took on an extra year of the contract.

westbrook better not crap the bed in the playoffs again if he ever wants anyone to respect any stretch like he's having right now ever again (which is legit impressive). this is his chance to sort of redeem the end of his career.

I'll take CP3 over Westbrook, but come on! Russ is also a stud, James and him should have worked it out, and the Rockets would still be contenders, especially with the Warriors going down and the two LA teams stumbling.

For Russell, tripdub average on a 500 team is better than no tripdub average on a contending team. He doesn't feel like himself if he doesn't get that tripdub.

Maybe Russ is too alpha for his own good. Maybe James is too, although James is more laid back, and has less of a chip on his shoulder. I'm not saying it was only James' fault, maybe it was more Russ than him, but it's a shame, they could have been good together here if they worked it out.

I wonder if Harden and Durant share Westbrook war stories.

Russ's win percentage when he hits those triple D's is like 75/80 percent.

He's a polarizing figure. The last few seasons, three he started slow, then midseason on he kicked it into mvp level carrying the squad. Very few can raise the floor like russ. At the same time, his inability or unwillingness to adjust his game speed/style makes a russ at 75/80 percent useless and almost destructive. At the same time, very few can raise the floor like Russ. He's a talent, a hof talent. Can he harness that at the right time or change, he hasn't shown that. But he does breathe an urgency and a culture that very few can. We saw both in houston, he killed us in the playoffs and lost any fan watching, he also carried us from december till the end of the season and was able to adjust when he had spacing. EVen in OKC they gave him robertson and average shooters, so his spacing was tough pushing him to the outside. You've got to maximize what he's good at. So russ only works on certain teams on oppose to put him anywhere and he'll be elite. Harden as well, we saw how he looks if you put him off screens and played him off ball, it simply isn't what makes him special or elite. Heck if you took lebron and ran him off ball picks, he wouldn't be lebron. You've got to make the cohesion, style, talent complement to bring the elite out.

What russ has done the 2nd half of the season, taking a team that was at one point brushing the lotterey lows and is now vying for a shot at the 8th seed is downright impressive, especially with that terrible roster.

Contenders, no way.You need depth, you need glue guys. Harden knew it, hell even cp3 knew it:
Former Houston Rockets guard Chris Paul was on the Knuckleheads podcast with Darius Miles and Quentin Richardson and explained the impact of the Rockets losing Ariza.

“People don’t realize, that’s the biggest thing that we missed. That was tough when we lost [Ariza] because he sorta was like the glue. He was that glue for our team.”

Those moves don't make the headlines, but each year you get John Paxon, STeve Kerr, Robert Horry, Mario Elie, KEnny smith, derek fisher, basically the role players, not worth the headline contracts who make things work, add to the cohesion/culture, hit big shots and in the current nba economics its more expensive then ever. When the new owner came in 2018, we were one game from the finals, we ignored our MLE, TPE, bird rights, traded draft picks and rotation players, ran out our assioate head coach along with other assistants. The culture wasn't winning, in fact 90 percent of our moves were to save money and we gave up or ignored assets to be a par title holding team(just like warriors, la, raptors who ever did) People say those moves dont't matter, but Marc gasol at 34/35 wasn't worth 50 million, but raptors took a swing, got the right bounce in the playoffs, rest is history. JR smith, KLove, tristan all not worth contracts, in modern nba you have to overpay on bird right leverage to keep your depth, but they got their chip. Tilman running this like his landry's restaurant, skimping on margins and things people don't think about drove away harden, westbrook, not to mention Daryl, Tad brown, Jeff bzdelik, MDA.

Ariza's replacement was James ennis, minimum nba contract. Imagine you're james harden/chris paul. Carrying the team, playing big minutes, not sitting out games despite the league having a new culture of load management, you get back to your locker room in january after another 38 minute game carrying the team and daniel house's locker is empty. He was picked up from gleague, cut because we wanted to trade carmelo's minimum contract rather than cut him, so he was cut for 2 months until it was tax friendly. Then a month later, James ennis, the guy you signed to replace your glue guy, also in the rotation gets traded for a 2nd round pick(top 55 protected). You may start to get wind that tilman's culture is money in his pocket and we all got hasseled by a used car salesman.

HArden moved his family here, bought not rented homes, invested in local business including the soccer team, literally had a rockets themed restaurant opened this year, active foundation. doesn't sound like a guy itching to leave, but the culmination of their lifes work, nba prime, is very, very short. You can't waste it when a new owner comes and shows you all the above. MJ after 7 years of not winning was omplaining about getting help and they finally got a HOF coach and help around hiim. Lebron Left after dominating and coming up short for 7 years in cleveland to go play with hof. Kobe demanded a trade or talent too for the same reason. And the nba has only gotten more expensive since. The fact is, with support of the above, our new owner burned it down like he was the dollar value Dolan and pointed fingers at anyone who would still eat out of his ass that he could tell to shut up and listen.

I don't care about those numbers he did great in RS here to. But then playoffs with schemed defense came and boy was he ****ing awful. LeBron basically assaulted him, east might suit him more but no way you are winning chip with Westbrook on the floor

Fans are salivating because the Wizards "might" slip into the back of the playoffs in the awful east and get crushed in the first round. We definitely won the trade because we went from Westbrook to not Westbrook and a pick.

Wall and Westbrook are both trash, a mid first round pick is more valuable to us than either of their sorry asses. CP3 has more good basketball in his pinky than these 2 combined. Even with his "great season" I bet you still couldn't give Westbrook away if you wanted to. He's a superstar that people pat on the head, and congratulate for trying so hard on an inconsequential team. They don't expect his teams to actually be good.

If that's true, then trying and failing to hit those marks every game is the problem his teams face. It is too much responsibility for one player to have to score, rebound, and assist every night. That player will fail, which in turn will make his team fail.

It really is incredible what he does, though. I don't think it's winning basketball or even team basketball, but it is incredible.

    Agree on all of this.

Russell Westbrook is a stat stuffer who unfortunately will never be able to successfully at along side of Beal or any great player. His contributions sort of remind me of a Marbury (light), he'll put up good stats until the game is on the line and who knows what will happen comes crunch time.

Russ played along side one if the most unstoppable SF to ever play the game (without good depth on the OKC) and was unfortunately still short to the GSW.

I'm glad CP3 and Harden didn't work out (really I'm not but..), it was hard watching them both pretend to sacrifice each other's strengths in order to win. Then when they were finally healthy both decided to coast through the playoffs even though the opposing GSW team was <80%-90% healthy.

With that being said Wall needs a SG better than Bradley Beal to compete, plus add in all the games he's going to miss next season (he's what under contract for another 2 or 3 ? Oh brother).

They started the season 3-12. Since that day they are 27-23.

During these last 50 games the Washington Wizards have LOST the total minutes that Westbrook has been on the floor....

That’s really all you need to know.

Stats with little substance as usual.

Russ is finally playing like be should as in not shooting more than 15 shots a game. Still don't know what you do in the playoffs when teams will dare him to shoot.

Great player when 100% healthy, as we saw last year.

Injured Russ = the worst player of all time.
