Tipping is not just tipping anymore. People need tips to survive. Tipping is no longer considered gratuity. That's why you have people acting this way. Because the companies are not paying them livable wages, tips are now in people budgets.

There's been econ papers on this; to be succinct; instead of guessing quality of service; if something is mandatory (like for normal day's work to be a livable wage for normal service); it should be part of a service fee or baked into prices of the food.

Yesterday; I ordered 'take out' from a Greek place. I was picking up stuff. The waitress who took my phone order; was there to ring me in. I paid food in cash (as mentioned in Rocket River's still carry cash? thread. :D). She gave change back in singles... actually verbally saying tips are welcomed. Etiquette normally says I don't have to tip, because technically, I was there for pick-up. Cause of the pandemic, I feel they're just not getting enough sit down customers, so I gave some.

Point is if tips makes a chunk of livable wage; the service fee should be included in their salary... unfortunately that's not how things work.

How many waiters or bartenders in this country do you think rage-quit every week over minor things like a bad tip?

The only reason this might be news is because people havent thought it through.

Not as bad as the delivery drivers who place your food on the doorstep, take a photo for the app, then come back and take the food for themselves, which apparently ia a pretty common occurance.

At least they didnt tip them with one of these, which some people apparently think is a good idea:

lmao at the old heads that have never been hungover on a sunday and with a push of a button can have ramen and Gatorade delivered to your front door. Also, I sometimes tip and sometimes don't (when it comes to uber eats/door dash only).

In which case, She needs to do better for herself then and find another job. It's not on the customer nor is it his problem. especially when hes already tipped her in the first place

That lady probably hasn’t been f’ckd right in a long if at all. Raging like that over a 5 mile ride is embarrassing. This is coming from someone that has bartender and served many years In the past.

someone here should reach out from here and see if they can help her with her issues.

I lol'ed, but got to thinking how legit upset I'd be if there were no crunchies in the combo box.

How much do you all tip when you pick up takeout food from a restaurant? Say you've phoned your order in, you go inside and notify a bartender who then gets it and hands it to you?

I typically do 10% at nicer places, but feel sometimes like any tip is too much. Cheaper places I might leave a couple dollars, if that.

And how much do you tip for grocery deliveries?

I typically spend $250 - $300 and tip $15. The store is like 15-20 minutes away. Is that too much or not enough?

If it's take out places; normally it's no tip.

If it's online gorcery; I think it depends on the vendor. With $15 for the 250-300 15 min away is fair.

Good to hear. I've felt for a long time that I'm being ripped off (by myself no less, lol). A lot of times I use my credit card though and feel like I have to write something down on the tip line. :(

I hate the idea of tipping for a regular pickup of a meal. Tipping to bag it? Come on! But, seems to be the norm now. And, Heaven forbid you have to walk it to the car! How much does that cost in tip? Don’t hurt yourself!

Door dash pays a base pay plus promotional pay plus you keep 100% of the tip, assuming this article is accurate. So for that one delivery (even if it took 40 minutes as she claims) she made at least 10 dollars and up to 18 or more if there was a promotional bonus. For 40 minutes that is an hourly rate of 15 to 27 dollars per hour or more, for 40 minutes of driving in her own car and listening to the radio or a podcast or whatever. For labor that requires all of owning a car and having a driver's license, that is not too bad at all.

That's ****ed up man. You know the way **** works, don't shaft the workers. No one is asking you to give them a ****ing amazing tip, but don't leave them without it either.

People are already complaining about the cost of the food if they put the price in the food how do you think that would go over?

What huge companies are you talking about most of these doordash places are mom and pops and food trucks.

LMAO at youngsters who think paying 20 to 30 dollars for a ramen and a gatorade delivered is great.

LMAO at these youngsters that are to lazy to cook or drive to get takeout and could use that money for something that you will not **** out in a couple of hours.

Did you really brag about having a 5 dollar gatorade delivered?

When I was younger I would not pay anything and have some female bring or cook me food and if I was single I could still do it.

The unintentional sexual innuendos are strong in this one. Glad your wife understands the value of just the tip now.
