Amazon Studios has premiered the first (and very short) teaser trailer for Chris McKay’s “The Tomorrow War” starring Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons and Betty Gilpin. The story sees soldiers and civilians being from our present being recruited for a war against an alien species three decades in the future. Pratt plays a high school teacher and family man who teams up with a brilliant scientist and his estranged father in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet. Amazon reportedly paid $200 million for distribution rights to the project originally developed and produced by Skydance Media and Paramount Pictures. “The Tomorrow War” is set to premiere on the service on July 2nd. https://www.darkhorizons.com/first-look-tease-the-tomorrow-war/
Trailer did little to nothing. The premise is enough to get me to watch though. It's probably not a new concept, having someone from the past help the future, but worth a look to see what they do with it.
Plot twist--Pratt goes to the future and fights aliens...who turn out to be the Guardians of the Galaxy.
I’ve read a few of the books. The upcoming seasons if made will be better. The author lets his political views leak into the pages here and there just as a warning haaa
Trailer is a pretty vanilla 'aliens invade the earth' fare and not a big motivator for me to watch. Believe it or not I don't watch a ton of TV or Movies as I have to be pretty picky with my time. The only original hook is the time travel portion which isn't really that original at this point. It seems like a lot of these Netflix/Prime urban sci-fi movies coming out are just big budget with a marketable star SyFy channel movies at this point. I'll wait for reviews on this one.
Watched the trailer for the first time today... Was on board when I thought aliens were going to destroy soccer. Jumped off board when Chris Pratt showed up. Was back on board when JK Simmons showed up. Jumped off board when crappy crowd scenes seemed really staged. Was back on board when Michael Bay-esque explosions occurred. Jumped off board when there was no sign of Samuel L. Jackson. Was back on board when CGI aliens showed up. I'll watch.
I get the sense from the trailer that WITHOUT YOUR HELP HUMANS WILL BE WIPED FROM TEH FACE OF THE ERTH... but I'm not totally sure. Maybe need to rewatch to confirm.
You know, Chris Pratt is a talented actor but overtime I see him in a serious role all I can think about is Andy Dwyer.
It was jumbled. The CGI for the time travel looked off, too colorful, and soccer field landing seemed silly, and in the end the star of the trailer was the wife. She probably should have been the lead. If there is a twist think it would help the movie, as in Pratt figures something out we didn't expect, but it looks like a typical save the world action flick and if it can deliver on that, it will probably go down as an ok film, but if not, we got trouble me think. "Well it was nice knowing ya" was kinda funny.
Don't see him as that talented, all he does is different levels of Andy Dwyer. I loved Andy so much so he has gotten a pass until he started yapping on social media.
In a way that being cast on that show was a blessing and a curse to him. Made him a star but now it's hard to watch him in a serious role.
My perspective on Pratt is slightly off the norm in that I never saw Parks and Rec, saw him first in that movie Wanted. All I could think was I hate this greaseball guy. No idea who he was though. Never thought he would become famous. Moneyball, still no idea who he was. And then Guardians and Jurassic, I was like hey, that's the greaseball from Wanted. It's probably easier for me to accept him as an action guy.
