Mank is just copying the Simpsons, who did best homage to Citizen Kane.

I watched Nomadland last night. It was OK. Gave me insight to a different kind of life.

    Judas and the Black Messiah
    Mank

    Minari
    Nomadland
    Promising Young Woman
    Sound of Metal
The Trial of the Chicago 7

...of the ones I’ve seen, Mank and Nomad are the best...

They were rearranging the award order for boseman to win, and they give to a guy who didn't even show up.

I know people are up in arms about him winning over Chadwick but he did deserve it.....

Worst oscars ever, that format was horrible and cringe and too much of Laura Durn. Like Kodak theater is not functional anymore? No clips, and no host. Congrats to Nomadland though.

If she would drop the granola/director style schtick, she would probably clean up well.

I was expecting something different but yeah the presentation was just awful, the lack of clips was a really stupid move....

It’s tragic that Boseman died but it shouldn’t serve as a guarantee to win all the awards he was nominated for. It should still go to the best performance.

People watch the Oscars to be entertained. There was zero entertainment value in that show last night. The only moment that gave a laugh was Glenn Close doing a booty dance. People want to laugh and laughter was needed given the last year.

Given all the racism occurring this last year against Blacks and Asians , this felt very much like an answer to that to try to smooth things over somewhat. Now..,whether it felt forced or not...that’s up to you to decide. It definitely wasn’t the White Oscars this time around that it always felt like in the past. This felt like the Soul Train Academy Awards.

The main problem is they made it all about cultural correctness with a huge dose of extreme boredom all along the way. Viewers need to laugh and there was none of that.

I normally don't like Kevin Hart's stand-up but I would have given my left nut for a little of his stand-up last night. Well...not that far.

Last night's show felt like a Black awards show put on by a bunch of White people. If Black people would have been in charge of the whole thing, then there is no way they could make it that boring.

I'm kind of surprised he was savvy enough to put out a social media acceptance speech the day after. I always thought he was anti-awards shows and just could care less. I don't recall seeing him at any of these shows over the years. But, if he lives in Wales, then that may be a reason why. I just thought he was indifferent.

He actually fairly active on his social media accounts, instagram & FB.

I have no idea about his stance on awards shows but I he is in his 80s so I wasn't surprised he wasn't available during the actual show.

I'll thought Chadwick was great but Hopkins really deserved this, his performance in The Father will probably be used in acting classes IMO.....

Boseman was a huge favorite. He had like 95% chance of winning based on the betting odds. Usually best picture is always the last award.

Think there has been an evolution, people don't go to see the actors anymore, they go to see the characters. Not sure if that is good or bad, but it is interesting. Now they want to see Captain America, not Chris Evans. They go to see Batman, not Christian Bale. And not sure it's ever going back. In some way, it's both a compliment and an insult.

As far as the presentation. It felt more like a second rate award show that Hollywood often puts on, but doesn't televise. One where it feels more like smoke and mirrors, small stage, midgets working behind the curtains, and cardboard cutouts. It felt off. But that's going to happen a lot over the next 5 years as industries cut corners due to everyone evolving how they watch now. It's clips.. Not shows. Different world. Most people will watch the event though you tube.

I've seen videos of him shopping and interacting with everyday people. He seems like a genuinely decent person that loves what he does. I can't comment on whether he should have won or not, but I'm happy for him and happy too that Boseman was recognized.
