Is that you Skip? Sort of reeks of that. These guys are’t working a 9-5, there main job starts at 8pm. MJ went out gambling all nights, sometimes in the playoffs. MJ also coincidentally lost 7 straight year while making great stats until....he got the right supporting cast. Lebron also lost 7 straight years while dominating the league, until he got the right supporting cast. Harden has had his issues, I’ve thrown my phone at the tv in the playoffs, but the guy is known to never miss an individual workout, he was also told to have hadn’t o be convinced to cancel the morning shoot around. Why? Bc he takes the game seriously. This is an elite league with millions and more on the line. People can make money being a ‘harden stopper’, but no w for the marathon of several seasons, when if he could, like many other stars, cite load management, he stayed on the floor for heavy games, useage, minutes. Messed around leading the league in points, assists, reinventing his game while tillman literally cheaped out mid season. Imagine plying heavy minutes, midsession watching them guy they replaced ariza with, james ennis who was in the rotation, get traded for a top 55 pick...nothing in return. Imagine watching the dleague Daniel houses, who was in the rotation, get cut just so they wait to make it tax friendly and not want to cut melo’s minimum contract. You think thats beginning when he realized he was over sold by the used car salesman tillman? The output, the grind of what harden produced takes mental grit, perseverance, and determination to be great. Not many in the league have not taken off as much as he has while producing what he does. I get it, hes not media savvy, hes quiet, his moms his agent. Would it help you if he made an offseason workout video for you? Haraden isn’t giannis, he wasn’t born like this, he puts in the work, hes a skill player. He is not a good brander. Kobe actually mentioned how he thinks branding is a big story telling skill, and people know the 5 rings he got. He was less efficient than harden, and people also forget he told the lakers to Ship him out even after they chose him over shaq bc they were selling tickets on his back but not bringing in the right players to win with because he had won 3 times, it takes a team. Always takes big talent in this league, now more than ever. And when Pau, ariza, then Artest came into the picture, they got it done. Only two times have we seen a one man show take it to ring, Our very Own Hakeem and Dirk arguably. But dont forget the kiss of death Elie, Don’t forget Kenny smiths game tying shot on Orlando, don’t forget Horrys big shots. You need cohesion, you need talent around you, don’t list to the bay less/ Steven a smith entertainment narrative, its alluring, it isn’t basketball. He has his flaws for sure, but now the narrative has gone off the way. It’s a wonder while the media has such disrespect, th NBPA full of players who no doubt frustrated by his foul drawing antics, still voted him MVP of the league multiple times. Jimmy butler, the media darling of ‘grit’, says harden is the biggest problem in the league. It’s not because hes tall or athletic, the guy is a true baller and always puts in work. No wonder now he has talent around him and owner not tryin to be the celebrity while keeping cash hes more efficient and less selfish ball then ever, go figure. This league has changed, we can adapt or just be mediocre, you need the stars and talent and cohesion.
Well, that's it, time to follow a new team after this season or just all together quit the NBA. Might be better for my heart too.
What I do agree is organization change under a new owner, that happen. But we do have to be careful, nba is a 30 league team, its smal moms and pops. Tillman’s executive approach to restaurants isn’t working and hes tried it. Go back and look at former champions, we Have Kerr, PAxon, Fisher, Horry, Elie, Kenny Smith, Avery Johnson, Sean Elliot, each year some vet, some unsung hero not worth his contract as a game changed makes the a game winning play or shot. Margins in the playoffs are very thin. Role players, depth all matter i that marathon. Think of Raptors, we know luck went their way when Leonard had the right bounce, but remember they over. Paid a 34+ Declining Marc Gasol for the next two seasons for that. Cavs overpaid JR, Love, Tristan, but they got the ring. People love to blame harden, but cp3 himself said Former Houston Rockets guard Chris Paul was on the Knuckleheads podcast with Darius Miles and Quentin Richardson and explained the impact of the Rockets losing Ariza. “People don’t realize, that’s the biggest thing that we missed. That was tough when we lost [Ariza] because he sorta was like the glue. He was that glue for our team.” And, like you mentioned business make changes. I’m with with ariza leaving. People were pissed when warriors got rid of mark jackson to go from good to great, I’m down with touch changes. But the facts are this: we had his bird rights, we could’ve traded him since we were cap strapped, and he was only a one year risk. We replaced him with a minimum contract in James Ennis. That very mid season, we traded ennis while he was playing in the rotation for a top 55 2nd rounder, nothing else in return. We also refused to cut Carmelo’s contract minimum as well off our books for months, so much as cutting Daniel House in our rotation until it was tax friendly. We also lost a 1st round pick to dump contracts...to get under the cap. So now if you’re harden or the players playing mid season marathon, ad you see players just leave and un replaced, you begin to wonder is this a all in championship culture? We just replaced our glue guy, Miami pays haslem not to pay even, for a minimum who we traded for a top 55 2nd rounder while he was playing...and then tillman took the mike after 2019 loss said rockets needed a killer culture which he wold instill, but he basically with the facts above demanded better results with a worse product. That may work in places, not in the nba where players are partners more than ever and share revenue equally and are more detrimental to revenue, especially the stars, than any other elemennt of the league. So Tillman’s we went all in ,ran it back just doesn’t hold weight because he watered down and skimped on the margins, thats isnt’ the restaurant business, nba is not the 90s where people bought in millions, its a billions league . Better or worse, the revenue for nba is exploding and thats the new game to retain talent or we risk perpetual mediocrity. That’s what worries me about Tillman’s business philosophy, here’s an exact quote: “ “All my haters love to say, ‘Oh, his food sucks’ or whatever. But we’re consistent. The hot food’s hot, the cold food’s cold, the music’s right, the property’s clean. You don’t have burned-out lights, you don’t have cigarettes by the front door, you don’t have trash in the parking lots. You know what you’re going to get.” Doesn’t strike me as a guy looking for the best product, but hey if you’re right and now they are just putting there people in. The truth is as frustrating as it is to watch this steep fall from where we were so fast, I want to be wrong. I hope I am. I also believe people can change, maybe the market goes back up and hes willing to spend, but he was making these cuts from day 1, his first offseason before any of the COVID business hits. So all in all,I hope we have a plan, the first 3 years have not given me confidence.
You mean objective fans? I’m in my 40s, but riding with this team since I learned what basketball is which I learned because of the Houston Rockets. I’m not turning my back on this team now, not then, its just a part of my life. This isn’t CCP or Saudi, this isn’t “shut up and listen” Tillman fertitta does snot equal the Houston Rockets, Les Alexander is not the Houston rockets, James harden is not the Houston rockets, Hakeem...I will never speak an ill word, clutch city! I’ve given my hard earned money to the rockets, going to games, my kid had a rockets themed baby onesie because I can’t help myself. I will always be rooting for them, I hope tillman gets his act together, but I’m not sure what kind of dear leader mentality says shut up and don’t be objective while mistakes are made, thats not loving the team, thats not wanting the best and being objective about the team in a very, very tough league. That might be being a good lower level employee or a good child to a parent. So unless this is Patrick, or one of the kids, I’m not sure why people suggest we can’t get on a message board while our team ranks up record losses and our best hope is getting a lottrey pick and developing players and talk about how the hell did this happen? Odd definition for Rocket fan my man.
Really proud of a number of responses in this thread. I can't remember liking as many posts in a thread as I have in this one in a while.
Narrator: "It wasn't." The Knicks are in 4th place and have won 8 in a row. The Rockets are dead last with a winning percentage of .103 over the last 39 games. Extrapolated over an 82-game season, that would give us 8 or 9 wins, worst in NBA history for a full season. For more than half this season, we have been historically bad. But somehow Cade Cunningham will get us into the playoffs in a year or two.
What does a guy like Tad Brown even do? Kind of sad harden left and maybe Morey, but who the cares about tad brown.
Does it ever occur to you that it's not about defending Tilman, but defending the Rockets organization? I just assume that if you're cheering for Tilman to fail, you're also cheering for the Rockets to fail and that is unthinkable to me. How do you not work out scenarios in your head where this is what we needed to get to the top? It's the only thing I have going for me. Don't you ever stop and think, what if we kept going down the same direction with the same results? You've been a Rockets fan for a really long time. Don't you want to make it over the hump? Reality is that we didn't. Reality is that we tried. Reality is that the writing was on the wall. Reality is that Tilman may be a turd, but if he's not we might win another chip. I'm rooting for the guy because my Rockets follow his lead. How are you missing that piece? How are others like you missing that? If Tilman starts turning this franchise around, are y'all gonna put yourselves above the team? That worries me. The culture on Clutchfans is turning on the Rockets. **** that. **** anyone on here that doesn't want the Rockets to win. I love winning and I love it more when the Rockets are winning.
Knicks record of spending spending spending losing losing losing despite the GOAT of GOATS (sic) Phillippe, cache of NYC, of MSG, and unparalleled disfunction is not eradicated in one season. The breakout stud, Randall, is on his third team AND a nonguaranteed contract. Props to Thibs. But you can have the Knixies. Don’t forget the Lakers, ok? How much down time did Jimmy engender until sis booted him and Lebron came in. To be in ELL LAY.
Houston Fans are rooting for the Astros. Houston doesn't care much about the Rockets Tanking effort. Rockets are stealing your money.
Guess you kind of overlooked my point that the last 40 games for the ROCKETS have been one of the worst stretches a team has ever played in the entire history of the NBA. This franchise cannot really be compared to any others right now.
CEO runs the entire business, delegating decisions to department heads like the GM, who makes personnel decisions.
