Do tell us what you find so offensive about what I wrote instead of just lobbing out insults

I'm going to say again a lot of this has been happening even before 2020. We are seeing more of it because of rhetoric and because people are more alert to this type of stuff happening.

    • The 70-year-old victim, identified by her son as Becky, suffered a concussion, a broken nose, swollen eyes and had her hair pulled out
    • She was targeted attacked last Friday on her way to go grocery shopping in Los Angeles' Eagle Rock neighborhood
    • Los Angeles police arrested 23-year-old Yasmine Beasley on suspicion of the attack
    • Beasley attacked the 70-year-old as she was trying to get off the bus after calling her an anti-Asian slur, despite Becky being Mexican-American

I can see people not reporting harassment, but I'm more dubious on the premise that aggravated assaults have not increased since 2020 or that "this has been happening" before 2020.

Social media didnt just explode from covid. The scant crime data says reported incidents has tripled.

Aggravated assaults have increased since 2020 and certainly recent events have made things worse. I'm saying that anti-Asian sentiments isn't something new.

Seems not idealthe way you laid it out.

But the again, its Ted Cruz, so I am almost certain digging will reveal some abhorrent side language in the provision.

Is this bill about preventing all Asians from beating beaten to death or just not admitting the lowest academically performing ones to the specific college they applied.

I wonder if this guy has a mental health issue too.

It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the attacks are people with borderline or full blown mental health issues that have latched onto rhetoric about the "China Virus" in the media.

Cruz is not a serious person in real life or through amendments proposal. All he does is gaslight. He already knows well that racial discrimination in higher education is already illegal, but hey, it's catchy on social media for some folks. He was originally against the bill and wanted to defeat it.

This is a simple bill to gather more info on hate crimes against Asian and provide faster response from the gov.

    Text - H.R.6721 - 116th Congress (2019-2020): COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act | Congress.gov | Library of Congress

To facilitate the expedited review of COVID–19 hate crimes, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

    SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the “COVID–19 Hate Crimes Act”.

SEC. 2. REVIEW OF COVID–19 HATE CRIMES.

    (a) In General.—Not later than 14 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Attorney General shall designate an officer or employee of the Department of Justice whose sole responsibility during the applicable period shall be to facilitate the expedited review of COVID–19 hate crimes and reports of any such crime to Federal, State, or local law enforcement agencies.

    (b) Report.—On the date that is 30 days after the designation under subsection (a), and every 30 days thereafter, the officer or employee shall submit to Congress a report on the status of each case reviewed under subsection (a), including—

    (1) any resources provided to complainants;

    (2) any actions taken to further the investigation of the incidents; and

    (3) data disaggregated by race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, of the victim and location of occurrence.

    (c) Definitions.—In this section:

    (1) The term “applicable period” means the period beginning on the date on which the officer or employee is designated under subsection (a), and ending on the date that is one year after the date on which the emergency period described in subparagraph (B) of section 1135(g)(1) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1320b–5(g)(1)) ends, except that the Attorney General may extend such period as appropriate.

    (2) The term “COVID–19 hate crime” means a crime of violence (as such term is defined under title 18, United States Code) that is motivated by—

    (A) the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability of any person; and

    (B) the actual or perceived relationship to the spread of COVID–19 of any person because of the characteristic described in subparagraph (A).
