Texas Senate passes bill ending local rules on paid leave, benefits https://www.statesman.com/story/new...d-local-rules-paid-leave-benefits/7202470002/ Small gov state wants to ensure it restricts the ability for individual municipalities to improve working conditions for its citizens.
'The bill's author, Sen. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, said the prohibitions would fight regulations and red tape that can strangle small businesses' _______ @SamFisher
I favor more worker protections, but it should be done at the state level. He's right that its too much red tape to have a bunch of rules at the municipal level. I understand that means no worker protections because Republicans have a stranglehold on state government. We need democrats to perform better at the state level.
The Texas Senate can go to hell. If businesses, regardless of size, want to attract and retain good employees, they need to provide basic benefits like paid sick leave. If a business owner can’t figure out how to do that and still turn a profit, they should do all the work themselves until that becomes possible.
Seems like the perfect way for do nothing Republicans to finger point different points of failure while raking in corporate donations.
They try to pretend they represent the working class of America. It's such a load of BS. From cutting OSHA regulations to this is disgusting. It's all about the business owners getting all they can out of the workers. If you are sick, too bad. If you need a water break, too damn bad. I don't care if it's 95 degrees. No water break! Your schedule can change from day to day. You are on call every other week. You will work Mon through Friday 10 hours, and most Saturdays. You have no choice about working overtime. We can work you as much as we want. Honestly, it's so disgusting how poorly American workers can be treated legally. The benefits like health care, working hours, vacation time, sick days, baby leave, etc...are really bad here compared to European countries.
The Democratic members of the Texas State Senate should remain in the chamber, smile and wave goodbye.
Companies have to be more flexible on work schedules to compete in the global economy. Either work schedules are flexible or companies will use more contractors
