It doesn't matter if they're the worst or 2nd worst or even 3rd worst record the odds are the exact same for the Rockets. There is no extra incentive or boost. The rockets flat out suck and will continue to just lose especially with the teams on their remaining schedule
You're right. I don't know if Minny has the tiebreaker. They currently have one more loss. Having the lowest standing still matters for the 5th pick
The three worst teams all have identical lottery odds for each of the top 4 picks. So basically there is no longer any incentive to have the worst record (as opposed to just one of the 3 worst), except that you slot out in front starting with the 5th pick if you have the worst record. In the Rockets' (and Timberwolves') case, that doesn't help them due to owing a pick in that range to another team.
The ONLY way the 5th pick does not convey is if MIA gets into the lottery and OKC/MIA get a top 4 pick, therefore making the Rockets pick 5th and then the Rockets would keep it.
Yes, and whoever set up this aspect of the “pick-swap” is one diabolical son of a b****. Certainly not someone who was thinking of the best interests of the Houston Rockets at the time. That, or the gentleman was brain dead. Why we would put pen to paper for that deal will forever be a mystery to me. Was it worth it? Of course not, yet the deal was made. The inevitable angst it could cause should we fall into our current scenario should have been reason enough to take a step back and say, to someone higher up the food chain in the organization, “Uh, sir? Don’t you think this might be a bad idea?”
Wow.... this thread..... A. We have been in tank mode all year AND ONLY NOW you bother to check how it works? (When it has been detailed clearly in other places) B. Having learned how it works, you now want wins so we end up with a lower chance of a top 3 pick?? Lolwut.
The question isn't whether it's a massive risk, it's whether it's still a better risk than our other current options. We're currently in the Indy 500 behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla. It's going to take big risks to improve.
im not pro tanking. this is a playoffs team if they only tried. if rox get cade, how much will that cost tillmen? it's bad business.
Ah yes right after we lost arguebly the 2nd best player to grace our franchise, our team suddenly becomes attractive for potential free agents. Pffft. I like my odds with the lottery over attracting any great free agent.
The only thing we need to worry about is June 22, these threads questioning 'tanking strategy' are pointless. As so many have pointed out, we would be bottom 3 without even trying with this team.
You guys come in and say this, hell ya we been talking about it. All i said was looks like #1, #2 seed going to get the 5th pick, why not win games in fall in to the 3rd or 4th slot. You chinese nerds come in here and get all bent out of shape. Go play Lin Checkers next time.
