The California people don’t want homeless people on the streets of their new homes in Texas @Os Trigonum @J.R. @Reeko
i heard an interview with someone on local austin news yesterday and she made the point that these homeless camps actually make it more difficult to get these people help. they dont have access to things like mental & physical health care, job opportunities, ect in the camps and they can pretty much get whatever food/drugs/ect they need to get by day to day...so they have no incentive to get out of that situation. theres a tiny home development for homeless on the east side and they have staff there that helps them and also provides job assistance. the idea is that is a transitional place where they can get back on their feet. i really dont know what the solution is here in austin, but whats going on now is clearly not working.
It worked to get the money passed in the last election - people saw the homeless problem and approved funding for it, before they were hidden in the woods. The solution is not what it is now, nor what it was.....but something that gets them a place to live and help getting them acclimated to society. What really needs to happen is a large apartment like building with efficiencies.....and staff to help. DD
