Teacher goes on racist rant, not realizing Zoom was on.

I don't know if this teacher is racist, but she did make a racist comment...... that a parent heard.

We all have said things we would like to take back, be their racist or sexist.

However her situation is also more complicated because she is a teacher.

Ask yourself this, would you want your child (a black child) to be taught by her?

I would not. I am not saying that her life should be ruined and I find the modern fixation on race somewhat counter productive, for example this zoom call is getting more attention that a number of teachers that were caught in the same time period molesting students (which is CLEARLY worse behavior).

I seriously wouldn't care if she was my son's teacher. She isn't being fired for showing favoritism or being detrimental in her job. She is being fired for making personal comments accidentally on Zoom

I would be much more worried about something like sexual predators. I went to an all boy Catholic High School run by priests. I'm sure some teachers were racist. It doesn't bother me. If I were sexually abused that would be a problem

 

As a side note, this mother may well be a terrible parent when it comes to her son's education. She may well believe that all of her son's issues are the fault of the school and that they are paid to basically parent her kid. I don't doubt that at all. I have heard white and black parents say that they should not have to be involved at all in their kids education.

The problem is that the teacher tied the issue into race and we cannot have teachers doing that.

She is either lying, telling the truth, not remembering, misjudging, confusing the timeline, etc. There are many possibilities beyond just lying or telling the truth. We just don't know.

Without more information, I'm not going to take this biased teacher at her word.

pgabs - can it not be possible that two things are true at the same time? black kids do not have the same success rates in school and that what the teacher said was incredibly racist and she should be fired?

 

Hispanics don't run around crying about racism and they are constantly improving
economically. Statistically outside your class they have passed us in education.
