Although his brother just won the NCAA championship, he never wore a Rockets jersey like his legendary brother.
Whenever there was a blue moon back in the day and Bryce saw some playing time, I’d always imagine him yelling (in a voice reminiscent of kid brother Randy from A Christmas Story) at his teammates “Come on guys, gimme me the ball!!!!” Anyone remember those awful radio spots he did with Sheryl Swoopes - I don’t remember the product but she kept listing her accomplishments and he kept reminding her that it was only in the women categories. As bad as the spot was, it was still probably the highlight of his career in Houston.
belated (adj.) 1610s, "overtaken by night" from staying too late or being delayed, past-participle adjective from belate "to make late, detain," from be- + late. Sense of "coming past due, behind date" is from 1660s.
Better career than the player that we drafted 2 spots later: Mirsad Turkcan. Other notable picks after Bryce Drew: #21 - Ricky Davis #23 - HOF Coach Tyronn Lue #25 - Al Harrington #32 - Rashard Lewis #39 - Rafer Alston #41 - Cuttino Mobley #55 - Ryan Bowen
The Cat saved the day for us in this draft. Dickerson got hurt. All these guys that came after Bryce were better than him.
If you didn’t want to see more of what a Matt Maloney/Bryce drew back court could do, then you don’t like good basketball championship potential
...in all fairness to Bryce Drew - he came in at one of the most awkward times in franchise history(until this year of course). The team was stuck in the middle of trying to decide if wanted to go young or try to get something out of an increasingly aging core. Hakeem was looking for one last contract(and the team didn't want to pay him), Rudy T looked checked out, Barkley was in his last year and clearly was living on his rep alone, Stevie Franchise was at his youngest and most out of control point of his basketball powers....it was definitely a transition point in Rocket history and Bryce was the long term project no one had time for. Maybe Drew would have worked out on a different team, but there was zero continuity within that squad from players to coaches. That team was a struggle to watch - I could only imagine what it was like to play there at that time.
