I'm sorry, but i have no idea why this is all of the sudden some new great idea. It was obvious that we didn't have a starting 4 on this team and that with Wood's length and ability to stretch the floor, he could fill that role nicely. Likewise it was obvious that the only position Boogie can play, is the 5. They are both better than Tucker at this point, so you'd want them on the court more. Also Tucker was never really a 4; he just played that role on the shortest team in the league. I'm not saying i know more than Silas, but i'm a little surprised this wasn't the plan from the beginning.
The reason this is confusing is because you think winning matters more than development to the organization. They aren't trying to do what you're trying to do. Wood is a 5 to Silas and needs to work on his game to get even better there. There's a path to Woods becoming a 3rd star when we become a contender and @ $14m if you understand the cap (and Tilman's cheapness) then you'll see why that's so valuable. More valuable than wins this season. As you recall, getting a 3rd star and their market value is impossible under Tilman. So Stone is clearly planning for Woods to be 3rd star, get at least one elite prospect in the draft, and trade for an FA. That's a very promising formula given our stockpile of picks (which could be further enhanced by trading Tucker and Oladipo). Those picks will be split between trading up for elite prospects and packaging with Gordon or maybe even Wall (if he puts together a good, more efficient, healthy season) for a disgruntled star. So there's no point giving more minutes to Cousins just because we don't have a 4. That's so incredible low on this team's priority list, even lower than winning. Cousins is certainly not better than Tucker both in terms of on-court impact and player development, we are better off playing Tucker who has never had an issue guarding the 4 unless it's Kevin Durant. Cousins doesn't do anything the young guys need to learn, and big offensive games from him just make him a neutral player on the court. Tucker can score 4 points and be a net positive on the court, there's information in that fact that shouldn't be ignored.
If the rockets fall out with Wood, Assuming he left the pistons cause he thought this team was going to be a playoff team with Boogie, Wall and Harden could you see a possible trade for a top 20 pick coming???
Wood will be 28 by the time his contract with Rockets ends. He will make by the end of this year, more money than he did in his first 5 seasons altogether. He needs to make some more money before starting to fish for championship teams. So we are safe with him. Making money, being a top player of the franchise... But if he does want out before that, we will have a lot of trade value for sure.
I think Wood's ankle injury is limiting his mobility, spring and game altogether. He just doesn't look like the same guy going to the basket. As a guy who dealt with ankle injuries while playing ball, he will likely continue to tweak the injury throughout the year. This will limit his effectiveness unless either he or Silas adjust his game to focus on what he can do. Hard to watch him shooting under 40%, when guys like Porter and Olynyk are shooting 50+. I know we want to tank, but beating the Suns would have been sweet.
That should absolutely be a consideration and the ankle conditioning that Curry did should be on his agenda as well.
Curry did serious weight training to fix that ankle issue. He was...what's it called? Dead lifts of 300 some-odd pounds. Proof that strong glutes, hammies, everything....you're only as strong as your weakest link. Wood will need that sort of training.
Let's be honest here, when Wood was healthy earlier in the year, he showed he could certainly contribute on offense. Defensively? He's too thin and can be overwhelmed by stronger opponents. Which is OK as everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. That said, on a team trying to win a championship (which this team is far away from) Wood (at best) would be your third option offensively. He's certainly a nice asset at this juncture on a HORRIBLE team!! If they have to move him in order to get a bigger fish (or to put themselves in a better position to do so) I will have NO problem saying bye bye. There's NO WAY I'm signing this guy to a huge contract taking up a big portion of the cap. He's definitely going to want big $$ once this contract expires, and hopefully they trade him before it gets to that point.
Would you say he's the equivalent of Pascal Siakam? And Pascal carried his team in the NBA Championship Series. So, I disagree! The Rockets are not going to get Superstars at every position, they have to build a TEAM. You need good players, that can one day become great! And don't forget, this is Wood's first yr starting full-time....so leave him alone!
100 % agree.... its the perfectionist and tanking mentality thinking getting everything anew will solve the problem and be better...lololol
28 is usually when these guys really hit their prime depending on the wear and tear of course. I wouldn't mind keeping him, depending on how his health progresses. If he continues to be injury prone then I would ship him out as soon as possible. If not... kpj and who ever we draft will and hopefully should already be a productive member. A guy like cade should already be nba ready by then. That makes us extremely lethal because just as wood hits his peak kpj and our draft pick if done correctly will still be getting better. Again Wood still has alot of work to do.
Was a bad night - he started slow, was missed on 3-4 inside passes and missed some bunnies with KP guarding him.
He almost strictly catch and shoot right now . Before the injuries he was seemed more versatile. He ran the floor better in transition. He was killing it with that TMac trailing 3 in transition. He also was better at putting the ball on the floor.
