Beyond stupid, honestly malpractice. I love Dusty, will give him a pass because it's early in the season, but there is a ton of work to do with lineup construction. Sounds ridiculous given the offensive production thus far but it's true. This is what the lineup should look like at full strength. Altuve Brantley Bregman Alvarez Correa Tucker Gurriel Maldonado/Castro Straw
Or maybe instead of rearranging everyone else to handle a random off-day, his preference was simply to give all his other stars a chance to stay in their regular spots. Maybe he thinks that's important. Or maybe the players value it. It's almost like people just need things to complain about.
He simply has confidence in his players. He (and Hinch) also do little things like that to keep everyone else in their accustomed spots in the order. He knows that Diaz is not the best hitter on the team. But he also knows Diaz can be effective up and down the lineup. He also doesn't care what you or I think.
Re: Diaz batting 3rd yesterday, I think it was a calculated move that was more about letting everyone settle into their lineup slots. Definitely risky since Diaz obviously isn’t our best hitter, but this seemed like a calming Dusty reinforcement order from the top down...as in, we’ve got this, everyone stay the course, and we’re not going to completely revamp our order just because Breggy is out. I didn’t hate it as much as some did. We’re only 3 games into the season...I’m fine with keeping the order steady especially with 9 and 8 runs in the first two games.
Fair point, but Aledmys Diaz out of place at 3 is a lot different that Chas freaking McCormick protecting Altuve.
Not to mention this is an injury replacement rather than an off day. Brantley very well could miss 2 or 3 games just to be safe
German pitching for the Yankees today. Didn’t he get suspended last season or before for domestic/sexual abuse? It’s gotten far less attention than Osuna ever did. **** the Yankees
Yep, Diaz is an effective hitter. If Diaz can stay healthy, it will be hard for Dusty to keep him off the field.
Potential tying run was at the plate when he entered the game and Astros won with him finishing the game. It doesn't matter that Astros added on after he entered the game.
