Not saying it does not matter at all I think its ability to coach and to get star players to accept coaching and it's even harder these days look at the blueblood schools. Duke Kentucky NC Kansas All have had chemistry issues the last several years.
Duke/Kentucky/Kansas have only struggled this year. It hasn't been several years. They were just fine before covid killed last season. especially when all were top 10 teams. Kansas would have been a #1 seed last year. Duke/Kentucky would have been at worst #3 seeds. #3 NC lost white, johnson, little, after the 18-19 season to the NBA in the 1st round (2 lottery picks). it's not abnormal to have a fall off after losing that much talent. But they got right back in the ncaa tourney this year, which is only a season removed from losing 3 1st rounders
Where is it being reported and who are these players?? Definitely think Beard will be a coaching improvement over Smart... but as others have noted, the cupboard is dry. Hopefully Greg Brown stays, cause he certainly has potential to dominate. Obviously think Beard will do fine recruiting to Texas, but the better/faster the start, the easier that becomes. Will/can the Jaylon Tyson kid follow him? It'd be nice if he can get the Bates kid to "re-commit" or whatever.
Micah Peavy and Chibuzo Agbo are the two they mentioned. Bates said he’ll talk to Beard with his family so that’s a start.
can the first two transfer and play next year? good on Bates. You can still see how it’s be easy for a recruit to want to play at UT... just even more so if the team can actually be good, which hopefully Beard can sell him on.
Yup. COVID waiver grants everyone immediate eligibility. Forgot which writer posted it but apparently we are going to see an enormous number of transfers coming up.
that’s pretty neat. More schools should take advantage of this and replace coaches on the hot seat then.
I'm not sure how much Power-5 experience really matters. Baylor's coach was previously at Valpairaiso. UCLA's coach didn't have any power-5 experience. Mark Few still doesn't have any Power-5 experience. For that matter, Chris Beard didn't have any Power-5 experience when he had all his success at Tech.
looks like Jayon Tyson decided to join Beard and commit to UT. Solid. in terms of ranking he rates just below Greg Brown last year, but ahead of Kai Jones the year before. Different type of player of course. The big thing will be if Beard can get them to reach their potential. Would have been nice if Kai decided to stay
He wasn't great at UK, but its nice to get highly rated transfers. Timmy Allen, a senior 6'6 forward from Utah also transferred to UT. 17 ppg last year for the Utes, though his 3 point shot isn't great... On the whole, so far, home run hire just from the players he's got to join the program. We're not talking a Final Four trip, but bearing in mind if Shaka was still there, none of these transfers would have come, Jaylon Tyson would have kept his commitment to Tech, etc.
The internet is saying Beard got another solid transfer in Creighton’s Christian Bishop. honestly this is going way better than expected. 3 solid transfers. One improvement in a new commit. They’re apparently a finalist for Tanner Groves as well.
UT got Disu. super solid gets by Beard all around. To be fair it sounds like lots of players have transferred so I don’t know what other teams have got but UT should be good next year.
