I’m not. And it wasn’t a “massage” that cracked the rib. As far as I know, its one back issue... that didn’t require surgery. Correa is definitely going to have to play more than 110 games this year. But it really wouldn’t surprise me if he did.
I'm confused. I was pretty sure it was the massage that did it for Correa. It wasn't? When did this come out? Honestly asking.
It came out when they asked Luhnow whether or not it was a massage, and his only response was "You have to ask him..." I'm sure whatever he was doing would make him look 1000 times dumber as far as decision making goes, and they decided to all just stick with that story. The night before this happened he hit a walk-off game winner against the Red Sox and was having a tremendous bounce back season up to that point... chances are things got a tad too "celebratory".
Some good Astros stuff in Goldstein’s chat: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/kevin-goldstein-fangraphs-chat-3-29-2021/ -Correa not signing with Houston (or Miami or Detroit) -Urquidy and Javier MoR SP -High on Solis and Brown -FO discussions were heated on Giles trade -Yordan won’t reach 600 pa -Straw .350 OBP, 1.5-2 war -Gomez trade was a mistake (duh) -Thought Aiken could’ve been Kershaw -Game calling is underrated and Maldonado is extremely valuable -Scrubb has good stuff but inconsistent -Garcia is BoR SP -Laureano had a bad year where he regressed and that is why they traded him; he worked hard to improve and his makeup was key I also agree with his take on the minor league reorg: teams may not need so many minor league teams for development, but that it was good for the institution of baseball to have more teams.
Doesnt really say he wont sign in Houston, just that its gonna be "in the free agent variety" Theres still some hope. Crane will open up the pocket book.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/03/angels-to-sign-steve-cishek-tony-watson.html Wow... this stings. Cishek to the Angels for 1 million.
I'm very curious about Jake getting signed at 1yr for 1.5M, and the thoughts behind that decision by the Stros
Francisco Lindor is 27 years old. 10 year contract is insane. 12 year contract is beyond insane. Very hard to see Lindor earning his contact after 35, if not earlier.
Yeah, looking like the Astros should make a last ditch "best offer" and if he doesn't take it, then be prepared to move on. Lindor isn't worth nearly 400 million dollars, and Correa isn't worth 200 + million. If they can get it, good for them but especially in the case of Correa, there is entirely too much risk involved. I could see the Astros going over 150 million, but the fact that Correa shut down negotiations after an initial offer tells me he still wants a lot more.... and maybe he can get it, but there are a lot of shortstops available and only so many teams that can over 150 million or more... Hell, the Astros could move Bregman to shortstop and then sign Kris Bryant to man third base.
