Man, this is crazy. I was in school when sampson was hired and i remember just how much apathy there was for this program. You guys might have read that he used to go around campus with some band members trying to get students to go and yea thats 100% true. I remember the looks he got when he would go around the place. What a transformation. Also, Hofheinz was such a dump.
Be honest now that we have won the game, did anybody think we were going to choke when we let them come all the way back? Like Grimes said in the post game interview the tougher team won tonight. When it comes time to put it in another gear we are getting it done. When you have a big lead it is not as easy as some think to hold on to. But when it really counted we took back control of the game. Can't wait until this weekend. Baylor or Arkansas. It really does not matter to me.
First half was near perfect. Obviously the defense, but the offense was getting everything they wanted too. All shine. Thought Sampson should have called a time almost immediately to start the 2nd half because they weren't sure what they were doing 3 possessions in. Then, the 1-3-1, almost made me sick. How the Cougars continued to bang their heads ( some literally) doing the same thing over and over and over again was beyond me. Coach should have handled that way before 5 minutes were left, if nothing else, to just change the approach. But, it didn't matter in the end. We kind of bailed ourselves out with hustle and got some call and Grimes took over sort of. They could have folded at 55-55, but they did not. Final 4 baby! We are all going to the Final Four! Woo hoo!!
Man, these wins are flying by. Wonder why never heard this past two days. Hasn't been mentioned on this forum.
Not taking anything away from UH or implying that they wouldn't be here anyway, but you gotta admit it was helpful having none of the other top 7 seeds in their Regional make the Sweet 16, which is pretty amazing when you think about it.
