Good for Correa. I hope he stays and gets paid. If he doesn’t I’ll still root for him just because of the way he stood up for the team during the scandal especially against dumb dumbs like Bellinger.

Correa wants a long term 10 year contract.
    25-30 a year.
    Will he get it?
If he has an amazing year he will.
If his back gets hurt again, he will get a 3 year contract worth 12 a year

    Cubs released Cameron Maybin.

Would take him as a backup outfielder over McCormick or Siri.

Have there been players that got 10 year contracts with a injury history? I am wondering if there is precedent for what Carlos wants.

Does he want a 10 year deal?

The best comparison I can think of is JD Drew. A player with tons of talent, just couldn’t stay healthy... yet still made a ton of money, even more than expected after he opted out of one big contract and got an even larger one.

What's Framber's status? I saw he was healing quickly but any timetable?

We will know when they set the opening day roster because he will be on the 15 or 60 day IL. That will give us some idea of when he could be back.

Just a number that is getting tossed around as far as I know. Maybe not 10, but most think he wants something long term.

8 yrs/200 million for the prime of Correa would be great. Would prefer 6/150 but wouldn’t exceed $25 mil AAV

After reading that interview tweet sounds like he wants 10/$250. Not sure any team would do that considering his injury history.

When Springer left, I was convinced it was to maintain our flexibility to sign Correa long term, but I’m starting to understand why we are playing hardball a bit.

The reality is Carlos has never had the kind of sustained performance that justifies a huge contract. With Pena and Nova waiting in the wings, we will have the flexibility to either sign Carlos or get someone that actually deserves that contract.

Drew isn’t a bad comp. I think Tulowitzki could serve as another comp if Correa continues to have health concerns. I really hope neither of those comparisons come to fruition when we look at his career in hindsight. Yet while Correa is stronger and bigger physically than both of the aforementioned players, you obviously can’t ignore his injury history either. Who knows...I hope Correa can string together a few healthy seasons. If so, he is looking like more of a Machado-type comparison, hell maybe even A-Rod if he can really tally the stats. There’s never really been a SS like Correa so it’s hard to pinpoint a comparison. I see why he’s holding out for a massive contract, and who knows...maybe Click and Crane fork it over at the end of the year if Correa can force their hand. I would’ve liked to see a 150m type extension offer, but if Carlos isn’t taking it than so be it.

Tulowittzki had some severe wear/tear whereas Drew had fluke injury combined with just brittleness. Correa’s injuries have been more the fluke-kind, minus whatever was going on with the back. His back remains the main concern but still doesn’t preclude him getting a 5-7 year deal.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the year length of Correa’s next deal matched the number of fWAR he posts this season. A fully healthy, monster season will probably get him $200M+ over 6+ years. Another year where he’s productive but misses significant time probably gets him a medium term 3-4 year deal that lets him Re-enter free agency before his prime ends. A big injury likely means a 1-2 year make-good deal.

I don't see how you call JD Drew brittle and not say the same for Correa.

Just looked at his injuries and he had a broken hand getting hit by a pitch, knee tendinitis and a oblique strain.

    He also had shoulder surgery.

That sounds like Correa if you switch out shoulder for back surgery.

I think it’s all splitting hairs. All 3 of Tulo, Drew, and Correa were walking injury concerns no matter how you want to characterize them. Hopefully Correa can shake the reputation because he really is built sturdier than the other two.

Stuff like strains/tendinitis/muscle tears due to chronic body break down. We don’t know what the back issue was for Correa... all we know is that it didn’t require surgery, indicating no major structural issue. The other injuries he had were fully recoverable/flukeish.

Guys get injured. Springer had some soft tissue injuries early before he was able to play a full season. Bregman/Altuve are averaging 1-2 DL stint per year. Alvarez just missed a whole season due to bilateral knee issues and he’s only 22.

Much more respect deserved for guys like Ripken.

You said Drew was Brittle cracking a rib because of a massage and multiple back issues can be construed as brittle as well.

Just saying you can't wave away those issues.
