Listen to McMahon on windhorst podcast he indirectly acknowledged that Tillman nixed both Moreys offers because he didn’t want Harden and Morey in Philly together.

 

Of course he did.

 

Im sorry but I dont buy this. The sixers deal advanced to point they actually notified ben simmons and thybulle they were about to be traded. It fell through because morey did not want to throw in maxey and failed to secure more picks in lieu of adding him.

 

the “Tilman was never gonna trade Harden to Philly” narrative makes Morey look a lot better, because that better have been the only reason Harden didn’t end up a Sixer

if he didn’t acquire Harden because of freaking Maxey or because he was haggling over picks, then that would look really bad on Morey’s part

 

Its like some of you guys dont know Morey at all man.

This is the correct take. In hindsight given the return on Oladipo, it looks bad but the decision seemed like - “let’s see if Oladipo is anywhere close to his old All NBA self and if not we flip him for some future asset” vs “Lavert is a nice player but doesn’t raise our floor much as the team is currently constructed and we need either floor raisers or assets to get those”. In hindsight, I think we all realize Dipo is not the player he used to be and teams aren’t lining up to give up assets for a rental who you will soon have to have an uncomfortable conversation with about how you are going to pay them a lot less if they want to continue playing with your franchise.

...the deal with trades heavy on draft compensation/super young guys - the trade always looks lobsided at first until you realize those picks/potential. Remember when everyone thought the Griz got fleeced giving up Pau Gasoline and then Memphis went on to build a playoff contender around Marc Gasol and the cap space that allowed them to acquire Zach Randolph? At the time Kwame Brown was the “let’s take a flyer on this guy” piece and it didn’t work out - but everything else did.

 

Yeah...a bunch of losers that can't shoot. Victor is a better player than simmons for this team and see how that turned out.
