I started to be positive for a second on an Olynyk post right after the trade went down... and then had to immediately self own the absurdity of the thought of there being anything useful in the notion that Olynyk and Bradley could contribute to this sh$t show of a tankathon. I mean I do what KPJ and Wood to have really solid growth of course.... but if there's any way to get that without playing a single player over the age of 22, THAT should be done.
Ultimate nightmare scenario: Olynk is enough of an upgrade over Patton he knocks us out of our top four pick protection.
They should buy out Olynyk immediately. Save the tank. He is a decent rebounder. Bradley is ok. Maybe get a second for him in the off season.
It's hard to imagine even Tilman being that stupid. That said, I can see a scenario where they get the top pick this year - or a top pick - and for some reason Tilman then says "we have Wood and top pick xyz, let's make a push and sign some guys!" But even then, you'd think he'd realize its just not possible with Wall still on the roster taking up $44 million of cap space. At least after next year Wall only has 1 more year left (unless he declines that player option, lol). While that isn't easy to trade, you might be able to attach a pick to him and trade him for expiring at next years deadline. So the overall plan then would be top 4 pick this year and next year, then have cap space after next year and add players, and still have various picks from various deals coming in. But whatever happens, the key to ALL of it, of course, is getting at least that ONE player that is f'ing amazing. And even with that, you really have to hit on all cylinders. The Pelicans got good talent for AD, got Zion, drafted well later in the draft, and still suck. The Hawks SHOULD make the playoffs, but are having a good year being .500. The Mavs seemed like they had it figured out, but are still looking up to the real powerhouses of the NBA. Having lotto picks is awesome and super fun as a reward for **** seasons. But the reality is you have to NAIL multiple draft picks for 2-3 years in a row. See Thunder, 76ers, Warriors, etc.
It isn't hard. Every option in returns for Harden is gamble with risk and rewards. Keeping LeVert would have been a risk if he performs well here or not. He is also a long term bet, because I doubt anyone would have traded for him before the 21-22 trade deadline at the earliest, and the returns would have been minimal. One 2nd round pick is basically the Bucks 2021 2nd round pick (totally worthless). The other 2nd round pick in 2023 has the chance to be a rotational player at best from the mess of To Indiana (31-32 Own; or least favorable of Houston (if 33-36), Dallas and Miami; more favorable of (i) HOU (if 33-60) and (ii) less favorable of Dallas and Miami to Boston). Instead of those slim odds, the Rockets bet they could much better returns from Dipo after he showed he still had some game left. Problem was Dipo saying he only wanted to go to Miami, and him not playing well or staying healthy since the trade. The Rockets gambled and lost, but it is not like what they gambled away will set the franchise back.
imagine having levert, allen, dipo. Then in the end ending up with Olynyk and a broken Avery bradley. Boy you can't make this stuff up
guess you missed this part The Rockets also helped the team that the Rockets will have to swap picks with THIS year if they don't land a top 4 pick
Could we have gotten a swap for 2021 with Miami, I heard the trade and thought it was that swap... now I see this 2022 BS??????? Live view of Tilman
what’s funny is that everyone hates this trade, but we had multiple people saying they wouldn’t take or didn’t want someone like Tyler Herro for Dipo...
people like DaBeard and others...acting like Herro is a scrub or he’s Kyle Korver as if getting someone like him in return for Oladipo wouldn’t be an absolute heist
