    The take from the Athletic:
    https://theathletic.com/2477083/202...me-to-miami-heat-instant-grades-and-reaction/

Houston Rockets acquire Avery Bradley, Kelly Olynyk and a 2022 first-round pick swap
The Houston Rockets completely bungled this aspect of the trade. Back in January when they orchestrated a four-team deal to move Harden out of town per his request, the Rockets demanded they receive picks and an All-Star in return. It was an unnecessary front to put up because everybody knew they were operating from a relative disadvantage. The idea of receiving an All-Star in return was to show they could still remain competitive while jettisoning one of the best offensive weapons we’ve ever seen.

    [...]
That is one of the worst returns in NBA history, regardless of how good or bad Oladipo might be in Miami.

It saved Tilman $2.7 million so in his mind he won the trade.

    I'll give it a D-.

Swapping next seasons Brooklyn pick for Miami's could end up being a really good move. The odds that Miami will implode next season are very low, but I doubt they'll be better than Brooklyn, that makes it a better pick even if only a little bit better. Assuming there are no protections on the swap.

60% of clutchfans was expecting this type of return for Oladipo in the poll taken before the trade.

They ****ed up not taking Jarrett Allen.

However, looking at the Oladipo trade by itself with Miami it’s a pretty even trade to me. He’s playing like trash with empty stats. His advanced metrics are horrendous and he is expiring and wants a **** ton of money. I don’t know why anyone expected there to be a big market for guards that look washed and won’t be with the team past this season.

I’m guessing Miami was probably the best offer out of the trash offers we got. No one else stepped up so Miami took him.

Bud Adams still gets the edge because Tilman didn't move the Rockets to another city.

He only moved them from the top of the standings to the bottom.

Why did anyone expect there to be some hot market for Oladipo?

He is incredibly overrated and his contract is expiring. Not a lot of teams falling over themselves to rent a guy like this.

I'd consider this a bad trade if we had better offers but I seriously doubt that we did.

Sadly, I don't think he's even the worst current owner.

But what if Butler, Bam, Oladipo and Herro all get COVID (again) and die and the Rockets end up swapping for the Heat’s #1 pick?

This trade cannot be graded until we know if all the Heat’s best players die or not.

The Miami Heat may have just pulled off the steal of the trade deadline.

Victor Oladipo hasn’t looked anything close to himself over the last couple of seasons. Injuries have ravaged what used to be an All-NBA guard for the Indiana Pacers. Last season, Oladipo let it be known that he wanted out of Indiana, and many people thought all of his time spent in Miami was a hint that he’d like to end up on the Heat at some point. He appears to have received that assumed wish. Shams Charania of The Athletic is reporting the Heat have traded Avery Bradley, Kelly Olynyk and a draft swap to the Houston Rocketsin exchange for Oladipo.

Oladipo was a part of the four-team James Harden trade back in January between Brooklyn, Houston, Indiana and Cleveland. He’s set to become a free agent at the end of this season after declining a two-year extension from the Rockets. What does this trade look like for the Heat? Was it an absolute steal, or are there a lot of complications here? Was this the best move by the Rockets at the deadline? Let’s red ink this trade up and down!

    Miami Heat acquire Victor Oladipo
Over the last two and a half seasons, Oladipo hasn’t been a guy we’ve recognized on the court. When he got traded from Oklahoma City to Indiana back in 2017, Oladipo exploded onto the scene. He had been a high lottery pick and a good player through his first couple of seasons, but he immediately looked like a lead guard who could make any team a lot better. He made plays on both ends of the floor and became an All-Star, an All-Defensive player and an All-NBA player. But then his body started breaking down, and he managed just 36 games (and an All-Star selection) in the 2018-19 season.

He’s only played 84 games since the start of the 2018-19 season. And in that time, he’s managed to shoot just 41.3 percent from the field and 33.4 percent from 3-point range. His explosiveness has been absent as he tries to bring his body back to what it was. There are some real questions about whether or not he can actually do that because if he can’t, teams can’t rely on him for even playmaking, spot-up shooting or defensive execution. The Miami Heat aren’t going to pass up on the opportunity to bring him and his health back to where it needs to be.

The Heat constantly tout their program for training and getting guys to top physical condition. They were a body health rehab center of sorts for role players looking for a revival for years. They had some good success with role players during the past decade too. Their hopes in this buy-low rental of Oladipo (that maybe turns into him re-signing) is that they can have him back to the Oladipo of old once they get to the postseason. Pairing even a decent version of Oladipo with Goran Dragic, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo gives them so much potential if you believe Oladipo can get back to his old explosiveness.

It also means less pressure and emphasis on the second-year exploits of Tyler Herro, who has struggled immensely since turning his hype train up to 11 during the 2020 NBA playoffs. At worst, they lost a stretch big man and full control over their 2022 first-round pick in exchange for the chance to revive Oladipo. At best, they brought an All-Star-level player on both ends of the floor into the mix. Even if it’s somewhere in the middle, this is a very good move for Miami.

Houston Rockets acquire Avery Bradley, Kelly Olynyk and a 2022 first-round pick swap
The Houston Rockets completely bungled this aspect of the trade. It was an unnecessary front to put up because everybody knew they were operating from a relative disadvantage. The idea of receiving an All-Star in return was to show they could still remain competitive while jettisoning one of the best offensive weapons we’ve ever seen.

The Rockets could have ended up with Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allen in the deal, but they NEEDED an All-Star. So they ended up sending LeVert to Indiana and Allen to Cleveland. It netted them Oladipo. At the time, this was about saving face and remaining competitive. But the fragility of this team was exposed as soon as Christian Wood went down with a bad ankle injury. They lost 20 straight games after that injury. Oladipo turned down a contract extension, and everybody knew two things about the next step for Houston. 1) Oladipo is not the same player he was two years ago, and 2) the Rockets have zero leverage in acquiring a decent return for a potential Oladipo rental.

Neither Bradley nor Olynyk will be impact players on this team. They’ll both be gone in the offseason. And the Rockets will be left hoping this draft swap ends up being something they can leverage in the future. Bradley and Olynyk and a draft swap instead of LeVert and Allen on the roster and under contract past this season. That is one of the worst returns in NBA history, regardless of how good or bad Oladipo might be in Miami. They better hope the picks from Brooklyn end up giving them something big down the road.

Miami's sitting at .500 this season tied with the Hawks & knicks. Implode? No but they're an injury away from being lotto caliber.

Tilman did not do that, Westbrick and Harden did that with their trade demands. Tilman is just cleaning up this mess as fast as possible.
