He also had to leave college ball to the NBA due to a "show cause", because he was dirty, and then came back at UH.

Love his style, hope he learned his lesson and keeps the program clean and keeps winning a ton of games.

His show cause was from sending too many text messages to recruits and its legal now except during the no contact periods. Its crazy CKS was banned 5yrs for that but they have coaches on tape offering players money and nothing has happened to any of them.

It was 577 illegal phone calls, by him and his OU staff, btw, and other fun stuff:

    https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/news/story?id=2457878

Then after the first time(s), he decided to just keep breaking rules at his new job, and also lied to the Universities and the NCAA about both situations.

    https://www.indystar.com/story/spor...ana-iu-simon-skjodt-assembly-hall/4753718001/

Just to be real clear: you don't get a 5 year "show cause" penalty for a few text messages.

Again, he's a hell of a coach and I'm rooting for him and the Coogs.

More disrespect towards UH from ESPN. Last night after the number of the teams had been reduced to 16 they went back and reseeded in their opinion where the remaining teams should have been seeded. In our bracket:

Loyola originally an 8 seed , should have been a 2 seed. 5th best overall team left
Syracuse originally an 11 seed, should have been a 2 seed. 8th best team remaining
Cougars originally a 2 seed, should have been a 3 seed. 9th best of the remaining 16 teams

I know we sucked much of the game against Rutgers but that comeback at the end was historic and took grit and guts. If Baylor for instance had been left for dead and pulled it out in the end like we did I doubt they would be seen as a weaker team because of it. Same for Gonzaga, Michigan, and Alabama. I hope Sampson uses this as a motivation for the team and they play with a chip on their shoulder and they win the whole damn thing. We were the only one of the 16 teams that they dropped in seeding. I am officially on the hate the ESPN bandwagon. What a bunch of biased jerks.

No Buddy Boeheim? Kind of surprising don't you think?

Not really. All he does is shoot the ball. He doesn’t do anything else to really
Impact the game. If he isn’t scoring he’s pretty much irrelevant on the court

Let's hope he has an off night against us and/or we put someone on him who can shut him down.

Dejon could shut him down if he was fully healthy. His lateral movement wasn’t good against rutgers, he couldn’t stay in front of his man. Jarreau is 6’5 so I would rather have him guarding Buddy. If Dejon isnt healed up enough, I guess it will be Sasser. Sasser plays good D but he’s only 6”1. Perhaps Tramon can frustrate Buddy. He is quick and long but just a true freshman.

General rule is kelvin takes away your #1 option. I don’t expect it to be any different this time around. I think we end Syracuse’s run by double digits personally.

Interesting matchup will be the weak, but tall Dolejaz. We are going to trap him with the goal being to cause weak passes to the shooters as we recover. He's weak, and prone to pressure, but he's tall and he can pass over the top, and that makes him dangerous. If he gets clean looks to the spot shooters we'll be leaving open, or if he can back door us with a bounce pass before we recover, this is dangerous. I can't wait to see how that plays out. Syracuse in theory can shoot. So we might be playing right into their strength with little to no regrets.

Also important to note is that coach Boheim plays his players with 4 fouls. So if we are aggressive on the offensive boards we can take advantage of the fact that they are a little soft. and they don't run, so they can't really take advantage of the defensive rebound should they get it.

Oh. And don't send them to line all day and give them freebees. They can hit the FT like we can. Best to stay under the bubble there even though we need to be aggressive with them.

Here is a weird stat. The Cougars now have 4 players shooting over 40% from 3 point land. Syracuse, none. Who would have thought.

Contrast in defensive strategy too. Syracuse is directed to take away the three with the high zone. Houston is directed to take away the paint with traps.
