I'm definitely concern about the Rockets looking like a better team after this trading deadline. I will be livid we lose our opportunity at a top 4 pick.
I don't think Magic will be taking that protected top 4 pick. I hear there is 48% chance it goes to Thunder. And Rockets should say no give backs or swap for another year if pick goes to Thunder. Too bad so sad. The purpose of all these 1st round picks is to flip them for something good. All of these late 1sy won't amount to much in my opinion. Mostly 6'4" guards. Project big men. But the Rockets have more 1sts than this season. Nets picks and swaps go on for several years.
This would be really disappointing. We’d be making the same mistake Dallas made with Luka. They tanked one year to get him, but got impatient and rushed the rebuild. They made questionable win-now moves. Now, they’re stuck with a mediocre roster around Luka and don’t have that other ‘top 10 lottery pick/young cornerstone’ to pair with him. Assuming we land Cade, 2022/2023 is our last chance to pair him with a young cornerstone using our own FRP until 2027.
Cryptic message from Wall? Wall to Mexico confirmed? (I'm serving up a softball for anyone taking a swing)
Multi team deal is what has been discussed with Oladipo going to a third team and then the assets from Oladipo and Rockets assets to Toronto.
we only have a 50/50 shot at best granted , it definitely doesn’t make sense send out our pick .. But , if we trade oladipo without sending out assets and play well enough to back up to the 5/6 spot .... we’ll , let’s just cross that bridge when we get to it I want bogdanovic and onyeka
This is the reason we need to go grab some high-risk, higher-reward type of players on rookie contracts. Perfect time to take a few shots on reclamation projects while we tank, tank, tank. I'm sure Atlanta won't move him, but Cam Reddish would be the ideal tank commander. KPJ Sterling Reddish Tate Wood is fun for Rockets fans! Don't bring in these mediocre vets, please. For the love of God move John Wall already. KPJ needs 36 minutes a night at PG.
While not tanking, the Rockets may certainly not be in position to make the playoffs next season. Having their own top 14 pick to pair with Brooklyn's first next year (and maybe that Detroit or Wash pick if they still have them) could get them up in the top 10. Or maybe they win the lottery and get another top 3 pick. I just dont see a way, even with Cade or Mobley on board, for the Rockets to be much more than a .500 team as quickly as next season. Hopefully they will be a team on the rise with multiple young building blocks on team friendly deals.
No doubt you're right. Where do you think we might end up in the 2022 draft if we're unable to acquire a top 4 pick? KPJ needs a lot of time and Wood isn't very good on defense even if he's fit.
only if the other teams near us also lose . it’s the eastern conference we gotta be worried about . Between us and MIN , the bottom 2 WC spots are locked up . Det , ORL , WAS , CLE , and TOR Are the main guys that can throw a wrench in our plan . Isn’t MIN on an upswing too ? id rather not trade for Powell or Gordon . Neither has a high enough ceiling to risk it this year / give up assets . I don’t wanna lose 20 in a row again . But if we go .250 pace the rest of the way that should be good enough
You are correct, at best we have a 52% chance of keeping our pick. However, the Rockets have a 28% chance of getting the #1 or #2 pick in the draft and that means getting either Cunningham or Mobley and those are guys that have the ability to be franchise players.... That is close to having a 30% chance of adding an elite young player to the team. If you look at the odds that way, it isn't so bad. Even in the top 4, where the Rockets have a 52% chance of staying, they are adding either Cunningham, Mobley, Green or Suggs. All of those players have the potential to be all stars.
Are the Rockets targeting Spicy P? I don't know the length of his contract. I hope Stone won't be forced by TF to do something , that will prevent us the opportunity to acquire a top 4 pick in the upcoming 2021 draft.
The Rockets are not interested in doing one deal..... so they likely would be adding multiple starters next season.... so assuming they keep their pick, they could add Powell, Cunningham and a good forward like Gordon....... couple that with Wood and Porter and the Rockets are likely a playoff team just not wining anything until the younger players improve.
Well having: PG: Wall, KPJ SG: Powell, EG that would be a tough guard play to have next year, we just need Cade at SF we are ready to go.
yes . We need to hit on getting a top 4 1/2 would be extra nice , but like you said any of those guys (or whoever is in the top 5 at the time of the draft) are high ceiling possible #1 or #2 types My favorite Idea is the ATL trade thrown around . It shouldn’t improve us to the point where our actual spot is out of the top 4 . Oladipo will be just as likely to luck us to a win as bogdan and X young prospect . if we get a little lucky we can start transitioning out of the “rebuild” while letting KPJ and our #1 come along . Wood , Gordon , wall are likely still on the team and their health luck (along with timing /trades) will determine whether we are trying for the playoffs or tanking again (this time with no swap shenanigans)
