Every report about the Rockets considering a particular move before the deadline should be taken with a grain of salt. There's so much purposefully devious PR floated at trade time in attempts to motivate other teams.
Oh my God that's horrifying. I knew that my faith in the franchise was misplaced. Rushing a rebuild is how you became the Kings, Wolves, Knicks.
Slow it down bro, this is all posturing for the time being. This is all a Mexican standoff to see who blinks first, and from what I’ve heard, lawyers sleep with their eyes open, so Stone has the advantage.... #KeepTankAlive Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
true...tweets like that always give me some momentary anxiety, I can’t help it I was just skimming through this thread minding my business until I saw “multiple picks” and “Aaron Gordon” out of the corner of my eye...I scrolled back up, read the tweet in its entirety, and then dropped my phone in horror
Aaron will be a bird in the hand, no doubt if they can pull it off, but the gain will be moderate at best. If he is willing to re-sign here, then it makes some sense, but we're going to be closer to the Magic than let's say Boston. It's obvious he wants out of Orlando. I don't think the Magic will be interested in three FRP's in the 20's. If I was the Magic GM, I would be talking to the Pistons for their 2021 1st round pick.
https://www.basketballnews.com/podc...nd,-lonzo-ball,-spencer-dinwiddie,-more-ep-21 Mike Scotto: (Most active teams?) Miami jumps out to me as a contender trying to improve. Philadelphia but more Miami. In the revamped East, if they’re going to compete, they think they’re one extra all-star caliber player to get to that level again they were last year. (Expect busy deadline?) The play-in tournament has changed the narrative of the deadline. Teams in 7-10 range don’t know whether they’ll compete for the playoffs. (Lowry) X-Factors are guys like Duncan Robinson and Matisse Thybulle. Miami doesn’t want to part with Herro. They didn’t want to do it for Harden. Robinson is a guy who will get paid. We saw Joe Harris get paid. Miami is realizing that, at least considering whether he should be part of a deal. Thybulle is a guy a lot of teams covet. Lock down defender on a reasonable contract. Sixers view him as a part of their team. Tough to pry him. (Oladipo) ... You’ve heard the worst kept secret in the league he’d love to go to Miami. I really wonder now & other GMs are wondering if he can get back to that all-star level. Also other GMs are curious why get rid of Caris LeVert if you’re Houston? Caris was a guy to help win now and be a long term guy. Oladipo, for some executives, it made them think “OK, maybe Houston isn’t fully rebuilding. They’re kinda in that transitional period trying to compete” and it hasn’t worked to this point. The Hawks, the Knicks, the Heat, and Woj touched on it, the Knicks & Heat don’t have to give up assets. They have the cap space to just get him anyways. While a marquee big name free agent, I don’t know he’ll have as much interest as maybe he would have a couple years ago. It might be a tighter squeeze in the free agent market than he is expecting.
It isn't completely shocking and it could actually work if the Rockets keep their pick and get someone like Cunningham or possibly Mobley. Those two guys have star upside. Especially someone like Cunningham that can have the ball in his hands to make plays.
Since when do the Rockets care about players signing extensions when trading for them (besides Harden deal, of course)? Aaron Gordon is an excellent asset and you can bring him over, attempt to compete next year, and then try to resign him if it makes sense, if not trade him. I'm not opposed to giving up one FRP for him, but multiple, I don't like that.
The Rockets were not really big on Levert and felt that Oladipo was a better player and had a stronger trade market if the Rockets did not keep him. Let's see how this all plays out. Right now the Rockets have some egg on their face with the Oladipo part of the deal, but they are trying to salvage what they can. They would like to see if they can potentially lock up Norman Powell if a deal is done.
Thanks for posting, but seems they’re regurgitating stuff that involves speculation. Also, it’s lazy of them not to add, “Having Oladipo’s Bird rights would be beneficial,” because these teams interested in him would have to renounce certain players in order to reach that available cap space.
I'm sorry dude but that's (atleast) partially BS. I could only be bothered to look up the drafting history of the kings but look at that draft history: 2009: Tyreke Evans 2010 : cousins 2011 : Biyombo (swap for Jimmer) 2012 : Thomas Robinson 2013: Ben mac 2014 : Nik Stauskas 2015 : WCS 2016 : Chriss (#8 pick, swap for Papagiannis at 13) 2017 : Fox 2018 : Bagley ALL of them are high lottery picks, between 2 and 8. All of them have better players in lower picks including D.Lillard, Curry, Paul George , K. Thompson, K. Leonard , giannis, Lavine, D.Booker and many many many more. Them drafting what feels like 15 big men for 10 years straight is what caused them to be stuck forever. Them landing even just one of those guys instead of 13 busts in a row would have made them a better franchise. Just look at those names up there, some of those are hard to even remember - all of them were high lotterys. If anything, the Kings are rebuilding for so long that they don't know how to win anymore even if there are actually good players on their roster now.
The Rockets want to add long term pieces at this point. They offered an extension to Oladipo to keep him and he didn't sign it. They are willing to make deals for Gordon and Powell but they want to lock them up if they are trading good assets for them. Even the discussions with Atlanta for Collins a month ago were contingent on Collins camp agreeing to resign.
