Hate to sound dumb here, but can someone explain to me the Rockets draft situation? I’m still a bit confused. I’ve been hearing even if the Rockets end up with the worst record, they’re still not guaranteed a lottery pick? Am I hearing this wrong?
So the way it works is.....OKC has our pick outside of top 1-4 this year because of the Russ trade(and others later) This means that if our pick is in the top 4 this year we get to keep our pick, but if not....we lose it. Bottom 3 worse records in the league have a a really good chance at landing a top 5 pick.
It's a lottery. We'll have a decent chance at a top 4 pick, which is necessary to stave off sending that pick to OKC for Westbrook trade. As with any lottery, we will be at the mercy of if our ping pong ball gets picked in the top 4.
Thanks for the explanation guys. I say let the tanning continue! But let’s get one win soon so we don’t break the record!
What would be a darker timeline? Us missing out on a top 4 pick this year or us getting a top 4 pick, drafting a young star, and that player being the first young star to accept the qualifying offer and become a free agent at the earliest possible date so he can bail from Tilman and win championships elsewhere? Could see both happening.
If Houston gets the top 4 pick this year, what does OKC get? Do they have a pick the following year with same protections going forward until it materializes?
They get nothing. Uhh....I think they have at least two more of our picks every other year. Im not sure Uhhhh....here, from google "The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to trade Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets for Chris Paul, first-round picks in 2024 and 2026, pick swaps in 2021 and 2025, league sources tell ESPN." So they get our picks in 2024 and in 2026 but they have the same situation with us in 2021 and in 2025. Meaning, in 2025 they will have our pick if its not in the top 4. But keep in mind, this year I think we do get a pick from Miami As some have already said.
Remember our back and forth on Mobley? Glad people are starting to appreciate his freak upside. But keep it on the QT.
