I would probably find him not guilty. Can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Chauvin was the cause of death, given the coroner's report that says with his toxicology result if he had been found at home he would have ruled it an accidental overdose death with no questions. The video of his earlier arrest where it seems he swallowed whatever drugs he had on him during a traffic stop would lend even more credence to that theory. I would say there is zero evidence of intent to kill, and the question is simply whether it is involuntary manslaughter or nothing.
I appreciate your honesty. I think Chauvin is a murderer. I find it difficult how anyone could view otherwise after watching that video of his death even once.
Yeah, it looks that way. Chauvin committed an extrajudicial execution of a man for all to see. And you’re dragging Floyd here while saying the facts need to come out in court on Chauvin. Floyd is trash and Chauvin is a murderer. We good?
So Chauvin was told to check by multiple people if Floyd was still breathing. He refused. Floyd was not a threat. That is evident beyond a reasonable doubt. The autopsy is clear on the cause of death. There is no doubt.
Except he wasn't found at a home. George Floyd died on the street with Derek Chauvin applying a technique that is known to cause a lot of pain and stress for an inordinate amount of time. The autopsies haven't said that he died of overdose. Regarding precedent this is why the Third degree charge is very important. In the case of Justine Damond Mohammed Noor didn't show any intent to kill Damond particularly but was found to have acted with a "depraved mind" to shooting as soon as he saw someone. This is the point of Chauvin's actions. Whether he intended to kill Floyd or not he acted with a depraved mind in keeping a hold on that is meant to inflict pain for control purposes on for a long time on a suspect already under control.
Actually my hope would be that it was just a horrible accident. But since we know that Chauvin was made aware that GF could be in danger from his knee to the neck, it wasn't an unfortunate accident.
Who among us would realistically expect to live after ingesting EIGHT drugs? I would not. It is quite obvious that drugs contributed heavily to the death. A knee to the back doesn't kill people - which is why the police trained officers nationwide on using the hold.

It was apparently not in the report itself, but rather the coroner's statement to police regarding the report. Technically true. The coroner stated it in his oral report to the police, which is different than the Coroner's Report. It would have been more accurate to say the coroner's statement was that he would have ruled it a drug overdose.

Yup. The analogy I have is this is equivalent of pushing someone down the stairs who has brittle bone disease which results in breaking their femur and severing their femoral artery which kills them and not considering that at the very least as manslaughter. Yes. I was just about to post the same thing. While Floyd certainly had a lot of Fentanyl in his system that was not ruled the cause of death. Also as has been brought up before there is such a thing as "proximate causes".

The doctor noted that Floyd’s enlarged, hypertension-plagued heart alone would put anyone at risk for death because of a greater need for oxygen – which “certain intoxicants can exacerbate.” Why did he need more oxygen? Could the knee on his neck have caused him to need more oxygen? This seems like the coroner was ready to absolve the cops until he saw up in arms everybody was and realized the video showed things he did not address.
The arguments presented here are going to be the defenses arguments that Floyd died from drugs, high blood pressure and etc.. The defense will go after Floyd's character and history too. This is why it is important that there are three charges: 2nd Degree murder, 3rd degree murder, and 2nd degree manslaughter. If this was limited to just a 2nd degree murder the chances of Chauvin getting acquitted are much higher.
