Alarming surge’ in anti-Asian violence across US terrifies community members

The objectification of Asian women is real (although that applies to all women in a wider context). I have a very good friend who is Taiwanese. She moved to the USA when she was 15 years old. I became very close to her during law school. We never officially dated, but we often would go out to restaurants and in public together at night. The level of “attention” she received and the looks and winks I would receive were staggering and from just about every demographic of men. For example they would not let her order what while I was in the bathroom... I had a black man ask how she can walk when I am done with her... I even caught an Asian man confronting her and asking her why she was with a white man and not an Asian man and didn’t stop until I threatened him.

Then there were the creepy old white men who felt she should sit in their lap or date them.

She and I have spoken about it and she told me that people do not understand how hard it is to be an Asian woman in America because criticism and sexualization and the expectation of submission is everywhere while also having to deal with other Asian stereotypes both genders face.

She told me that she was constantly asked out by white and black men but they were creepy because they basically had a fetish for submissive Asian women.

As for the sex industry in the USA, we prosecuted some of the various organizations behind it. The massage parlors were mostly Asian women because they were owned by Korean or Chinese gangs that had direct access to Asian women overseas. It was an easier demographic to control for them. They would also hire the occasional black or white or Hispanic woman that were looking for voluntary employment. These women typically get to keep half of what they charge.

Escorts and street walkers are dominated by black, Hispanic and white women.

 

Tried to visit one of my favorite neighborhood grocers in SF yesterday morning, but the (of Chinese extraction) clerk I know met me at the door and said I couldn't come in. He apologized, waving his hands and explained they'd just been vandalized by a "crazy guy knocking things over and spraying pepper spray everywhere." You could still smell it.

So, never seen anything like that in SF before, though we have plenty of "crazy" people. I'm wondering if the perp hopped on the nearby train and continued his shenanigans downtown until the little lady with the 2x4 showed him what's what. Will probably never know.

I told the guy I'm so sorry he went through that and that I hoped it wasn't what we were both thinking. "Me too," he said. He was obviously scared.

the media is really weird right now. they're not reporting all the anti-asian violence. if it were, right and left would look all the same.

this one might not be due to racism. unfortunately, it looks like an easy profile. drug addicts who target old women and their purses. it's usually hit and snatch, or snatch and run on sidewalks or pickpocketing purses at pedestrian lights.

 

I wish there were a way to weed these people out at birth or even better the womb. I’m so ****ing sick of this ****. The people in positions of power that stoke the flames of these pathetic creatures for political and financial gain are reprehensible.

 

The last time I've experience some kind of racism is when the Virginia tech shooting took place and the shooter was Korean. Karens did not like me at all when that **** was going down, lmao. And I was in college back then. As for the covid stuff, I'm 40 now and I don't go out at all. So I haven't been hit with that yet.

 

More to do with religion for making him feel bad for wanting to get laid and blaming women for it.

Maybe it isn't deserving, but I hope it's a wakeup call to the US that Asians face very real racism and discrimination that is often ignored.

The Asian population is high there. Also, it's a town where everyone walks.

If he sees them as less than human, I don't think it has to do with them being Asian. Probably because they are sex workers.

I'm Asian and anti-Asian sentiment is definitely happening. I just think that this particular incident is not a particularly good example of it. There are plenty of incidents that are obviously racially motivated, and they choose to try to connect this to white supremacy just because he resembles the Trumptards that stormed the capital even though there is little evidence so far that race had anything to do with it. It just seems to fit a narrative that the national media is trying to convey.
