Not to derail but I still don’t understand what’s going on with Wall. Which leads to my confusion about whether or not it makes sense for us to hang onto Augustin.

If Wall’s knee really requires another surgery, why is there talk about him possibly returning soon? In a throwaway season, no less?

Also, general statement: Saying Houston "only moved up 5-10 spots" is all relative, because the significance totally depends on where you are in the draft. For example, if a team moves from 60 to 52, not a big deal. Moving 13 to 5, huge deal.

In this case, I'm guessing it'll probably be from 32 to 25, something along those lines. I suspect 25 has a decent bit more value on the trade market, though obviously I can't prove that yet. But let's be careful to not put it all in a one-size-fits-all template.

The Bucks 2023 FRP that the Rockets got is completely unprotected.

I think there scouting is just fine personally. It allowed them to grab kmj in the 2nd round and sign Tate, nwaba. Also led to getting kpj and Wood via trade.

Just adding Tate, nwaba and kmj is a huge shout out to scouting with jury still out on Mason Jones

The very slight possibility that Giannis chooses to force his way out in exactly the timeframe between the 2022 and 2023 picks is why this is a very slight upgrade. I don’t think anyone is arguing the 2023 isn’t better, it’s just very meh.

IF 2023 is the HS draft year, that could be meaningful addtional value, but they’ve been talking about that like five years. It was supposed to be 2021 for a long time. Yes, it might be 2023, but it could just as easily not be.

The 20-30 range has been huge in recent years. Just think of the Nets: Levert, Allen, and Claxton were all drafted between 20 and 30. Being able to move into this range is not a small thing.

The trade not being consummated yet makes me thing Stone is trying to spin it up to do more stuff. Maybe move Augustine somewhere or include other players. We'll see.

They have delayed almost every deal since the WB to try and expand it. Hasn’t happened yet. I’d love this to be the first one, can’t imagine the Bucks are allowing much time. The Craig trade was just announced.

Good analysis. I'd also mention that KPR was picked 30, whereas the Bucks are probably picking in the mid-20s.

Let's go with a 2 SRP value, though. 2 SRPs + a competent backup PG + a flier on young PF prospect seems like a pretty decent return. I have no idea how to value the 2022/2023 swap, though it does make out upcoming drafts more balanced.

KPJ was a total anomaly. Has there ever been another case where someone trade 4 SRPs for the 30th overall pick? That was specific to KJP, becuase he was a clear lotto level talent with material offcourt concerns that caused him to drop and it was obvious to many that he had fallen too far, which is why CLE has to offer a Brinks load of SRPs to get him.

At some point Stone has to hit one of these expanded trades. Will basketball jesus be good to us positive vibes fans or will it continue siding with the grumpy fans?

I'm not too worried about expanding this one as it would likely just be DJ Augustin combined with someone else as the added benefit.

I'm not overly concerned about Augustin getting paid $7M next year, I think he's an above average backup and can score 20 in a game if he's on.

Milwaukee has a habit of adding guys and not using them.

Sterling Brown is a great example of a guy underutilized under Coach Bud.

They got Craig and didn't use him either.

I have read 20+ pages of reactions and hot takes. 90 percent of this board is ridiculous. This is neither the deal of the century start planning the parade nor is it worse than just releasing PJ. I dont even know whether its good or bad because: a) the deal may not be final atm, or b) who knows what the players involved, if they stay, will turn into, or c) whether moving up this year in the draft or moving the 22 pick to 23 will prove to amount to a whole lot.

I think the safe thing to say is that PJ being traded was no secret. That he would have a small number of suiters (of which only a subset would make an offer rather than bet on a buyout) hampered the possible return. Those factors being the case the deal is likely about what any of us could reasonably expect.

Now, the Rockets have 3 first round picks next year. I expect them to procure at least another one or, possibly, 2 before the deadline (EDIT: 2 more picks, not necessarily firsts) (Augustine and as filler for some of the other distressed assets Stone has to unload in McLemore, House, and maybe Dipo). The real question is how the rockets plan to use those picks. I doubt they would plan to, or even could, have 5 or 6 rookies on the team. So this is all moving, as it should, toward asset accumulation for a trade to either move up in the draft or for a player this offseason. Then we can probably talk about where this trade ranks.

    Hmmmmm

And Heat are trying to snake Dinwiddie from Nets.

There could have been an interesting 3 team trade in that scenario.

I guess PJ for Herro was a pipedream.
