Didn't security experts say it's more efficient to have sensors, drones, patrols etc than a wall anyways?

For a long stretch of a border, it makes more sense to have those things than a wall.

The wall became a thing because a certain candidate didn't have any nuanced policy desires and needed a quick catch phrase jargon to sell to his base and during his presidency that was the one aspect he based his success of keeping campaign promises, not ending corporate lobbying, not bringing back coal jobs etc, but the wall.

Yes there have been many stories from people involved in national security that a wall along the whole border doesn't make sense.

Wasn't there stories from people involved in Trump's campaign who admitted that "The Wall" was just rhetoric and they didn't even take it seriously?

I believe Bannon did. I forget which interview but basically he admitted that Trump wasn't good at nuanced policy rheotoric and when Trump in one rally brought up the wall, Bannon knew that this should be what he sticks with for the the rest of the campaign because it was so natural to him and it resonated extremely well with the base.

It's good to have a press secretary that deals in facts for a change not some made up lies.

Even Rick Perry said on tv that the Wall didn't mean a real wall (until it did, lol). Now I have to find that clip.

There are no easy solutions short of getting REALLY nasty about it.

The immigrants will simply move further down the border and find another way to enter.

Very expensive and limited success with no real consequences for those entering.

This can help, but it still has it's limits.

They don't view it as a problem in many cases, not one that is worth using resources on.

The money is needed in America as well, voters won't support that.... besides the expenses would be huge.

This is the best bet, but neither the Republicans or Democrats REALLY want this....

I would think Trump supporters would tip their hats towards that type of behavior....

re: Immigrants finding other places to cross. And? You are not going to stop illegal entry, so the goal should be to slow it down, divert to places you can more easily patrol.
re: Expense: what is the current cost of dealing with illegal immigration? Would diverting the $$$ being spend on the "wall" pay for additional border patrol agents? Would fines collected from companies hiring undocumented workers pay for the hiring of more border patrol?
re: other countries not seeing a problem. Some do... they don't want immigrants coming through their country. And incentives to working collaboratively will act as inducement to participating. We are already spending money on the problem... I see it an opportunity to spend it differently.
re: aid to neighboring countries. Again, the illegal immigration problem is complex and expensive. Current approaches are not working. Its a regional problem, solve at the regional level.
re: cutting down on hiring of undocumented workers. Jobs and more broadly and better life is what draws people here. If you want to solve the problem... this is the first place to work.

Of course, if you don't really want to solve the problem... keep doing what we are doing now.
